Another day, another update in the Aaron Rodgers/Packers saga. This afternoon, the future Hall of Famer participated in ‘The Match’ golf tournament alongside Tom Brady, Phil Mickelson, and Bryson DeChambeau. Rodgers was naturally asked about his standoff with the Packers, and the quarterback decided to play coy.
“I don’t know,” Rodgers said when asked about his future in Green Bay (via Bleacher Report on Twitter). “We’ll see. We’ll see, won’t we?”
The 37-year-old also failed to acknowledge the Packers’ Week 1 matchup against the Saints, instead saying that he was prying information from Brady about the defending champ’s future in the NFL.
Besides the non-quotes from the tournament, we also learned that Rodgers had yet to gather with his wideouts (per Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com). While the veteran avoided offseason workouts and minicamp, he still could have participated in unofficial sessions with the likes of Davante Adams, Allen Lazard, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Devin Funchess, and others. This news isn’t a huge surprise since Rodgers has continually committed to his stance that he wants to play elsewhere, but you’d imagine Rodgers would want to get some work in before the regular season starts.
Finally, while it always seemed farfetched, we learned today that Rodgers won’t be opting out of the 2021 campaign. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports (via Twitter) that no players are believed to have opted out of next season. This path never made a whole lot of sense for the quarterback; he would have sacrificed a hefty payday in 2021 and would have just been delaying the stare down for at least another year.
Hmmm, so everything’s the same.
Interesting.
I learned that Funchess wasn’t hurt yet.
“He’s unhappy with his boss and has no options, who is Aaron Rodgers?”
Brady is not holding back lol
Did Brady really say that? That would be awesome, hahaha
Brady said that & on the links said to the effect “I’m studying my competition. Aaron is the leader of the Packers…well I think he is’!
He’s under contract with the fudge; nothing to see here…
The pettiness in me hopes the Packers tell him to show up or retire.
Pretty much what GB is going to do.
As satisfying as that may sound, there is no way on earth the Packers would do that.
well guess we’ll see, but I dont see them trading him this season. I think both sides are firmly dug into their positions.
Good thing your pettiness does not run the team. Squandering a valuable asset in the name of pettiness would destroy the team.
Also, NFL contracts are meaningless. They’re non-guarateed and are constantly restructured. Why no outrage when teams cut/release players? Do you only care about the sanctity of contracts when the players are the ones wanting out of the agreement?
And no one has a gun to there head for them to sign those contracts, either.
And no one has a gun to owner’s/GM’s head to sign those contracts. NFL contracts are a joke. Ripping players for holding out or ‘not honoring contracts’ while remaining quiet when teams release players (therefore voiding the remainder of their contract) is peak hypocrisy.
It’s a contract to play football, not sell your soul.
Nobody has to fulfill any contract. You just have to deal with the repercussions of breaching the contract.
Sooooo sick of this argument
“he still could have participated in unofficial sessions with the likes of Davante Adams, Allen Lazard, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Devin Funchess, and others”.
Well, I definitely recall some team getting fined last season for these types of “unofficial” sessions. Are there no longer any Covid precaution measures that have to be met for such meetings?
No. They can do whatever they want on their own time again.
So the league believes the Covid precaution measures can be abandoned yet they are still pressuring players to get vaccinated. Seems to be a logic gap there.
At this point, if you don’t get vaccinated and you die, it’s your own fault for watching Fox News.
I got vaccinated, but I still respect the worries of others who are concerned over the long term effects of a vaccine. Of all the people I know who aren’t vaccinated, about half certainly do not watch Fox News. Politicizing the issue as a purely left vs. right decision will only further influence people to consider the decision as a political versus medical decision.
It just seems that the NFL is sending out conflicting messages here. On the one hand they are relaxing all the Covid precautions suggesting the threat is under control while at the same time stressing to players that vaccination is necessary to actually be safe. No wonder a lot of players are scratching their heads wondering if Goodell even knows what he’s talking about.
Murphy seems really dumb here. If he really believes Love is a starting material, he should trade Rodgers as soon as possible and get a stop-gab QB and a couple of early picks! Why keep the team in limbo when he can start the QB he wanted when he drafted?
Nice “update”
Where did it say “Update?”
Literally in the first sentence of the article you’re commenting on.
He didn’t read that far.
Me personally I’m going with the conspiracy theory ( I believe in Sasquatches too I know they are real) So Brett I’m mean Rodgers got pissed that they drafted Love, and what did he do besides become MVP. I say keep passing him off this year we win the SB and then he has more then Brett. That will go a long way in the argument of who is the better career and quarterback.
Would opting out of this season hurt his chances for a trade? The guy wants to play – somewhere – else! After all this – if he walks back in the front door – he’s a fool!
