In light of Barkevious Mingo’s arrest on the charge of “indecency with a child–sexual contact,” the Falcons have elected to release the veteran linebacker. In a statement announcing the move, the team said, “After being made aware today of allegations involving Barkevious Mingo and gathering information on the matter, the Atlanta Falcons have terminated his contract.”
We now have a few more details on the matter, courtesy of Jon Wertheim of SI.com. Wertheim reports that the alleged incident took place during the Fourth of July weekend in 2019, when Mingo treated a teenage family member and the boy’s friend (also a teenager) to a trip to an amusement park and a go-kart complex. Mingo also took the boys to dinner at a local steakhouse and paid for an online shopping spree at Nike.com.
The boys spent the evening of July 4, 2019, at the hotel where Mingo was staying. The alleged victim said the boys were supposed to sleep in a different room from Mingo, but at around 3am, he woke up to find Mingo lying in bed with him. At this point, we will direct you to Wertheim’s article for the rest of the details, which are disturbing.
The alleged victim’s mother filed a complaint with police in January 2021, and the investigation — which included a search warrant for Nike’s sales records — culminated in a felony charge against Mingo. The No. 6 overall pick of the 2013 draft faces up to 20 years in prison.
Mingo’s attorney, Lukas Garcia, issued the following statement: “At this stage, our side has very limited information. What we do know is these allegations are from over two years ago and are completely untrue. Mr. Mingo is the victim of a false claim, and we believe this is motivated by money or some other ulterior motive.”
Good. Get rid of him
Sounds like he went with/attempted “speed grooming”.
The article says this too…call me Columbo (Boomer reference for you kids)
Columbo is eternal.
If this is true….he needs to go to jail for a really really really long time….and I doubt this was the first time either. This is jerry Sandusky type of behavior……
My only question is why did it take 6 months for mother to make complaint.. if true it’s sickening but if they can only say he treated them to dinner and a spending spree that doesn’t prove anything else happened.. sounds suspicious as hell and I think it was a lot more than that but it m not come nvicting a guy if there’s nothing else that says it went further.. hopefully police can prove or disprove what took place.. makes me sick.. my question is why mother let them stay overnight or what did they tell her like where they were.. while thing makes me sick if true
Starstruck, an NFL star is treating your boy. Why it took so long? Maybe the kid never opened up to anybody about what happened. Maybe his friend started spreading the story and word back back to mom? Maybe he has been troubled since and revealed it in therapy? Who knows, but not uncommon for these stories to come out even much longer than this one, just look at the stories now of priests and Boy Scout leaders from many years ago.
it didn’t take 6 months it happened in july of 2019 so it took 18months you know after his family had a rough 2020 with job loss to go sue a cash cow.
That was a very disturbing account of what occurred.
Is alleged to have occurred, but I agree, it was disturbing.
Telegram for Mingo
I really hope that didn’t happen. That’s…that’s just not good. If it did, well, good thing the Falcons released him at the very least. But that’s just the police report so far, which is still just an account from an accuser. It might be true, it might not be true, it could be partially true. I just hope that whatever is true gets dealt with appropriately. We’ll see what happens.
He was Barking up the wrong tree?
Tasteless.
HAAAAAA!
Ha!
im skeptical if said thing did happen wouldn’t the teenage family member also been aware. Was there any followups also be curious to see if anybody else come forward otherwise filing a complain 18months after the incident sounds like a moneygrab after rough 2020.
Maybe it took so long because of comments like this? Not saying convict someone prior to trial, but immediately assuming it’s a money grab and blaming the victim isn’t helping
People make up stuff all the time!
Based on the allegation, if Mingo was quiet and the teenage boy was pretending to be asleep and Mingo’s alleged actions never went beyond what was mentioned in the news story, and the teenage family member was asleep in the other bed in the room, he probably wouldn’t have heard a thing unless he was a light sleeper.
Or it sounds like a teenaged boy didn’t want it known that he was sexually assaulted by another male.
