Things are moving quickly in Green Bay. News about Aaron Rodgers has been flying in all afternoon, and now we have an update on another one of their star offensive players.
Just a few days ago we heard that Davante Adams had ended extension talks with the team, but with Rodgers back in the fold Adams is once again “open to a deal,” Adam Schefter of ESPN.com tweets. Adams “now is willing to listen to any contract discussions the team would like to have,” sources told Schefter.
Rodgers’ agreement with the Packers will apparently give them some extra cap space for this season, potentially making it easier to iron something out with Adams. Just a few days ago NFL Network was saying things were “now in a bad place” between Adams and the franchise.
Apparently news of Rodgers’ impending return has changed those circumstances, even though it seems like Rodgers could still be on his way out the door in 2022. Either way, it’s another welcome development for Packers fans.
Arguably the top receiver in the game, Adams will turn 29 in December and is undoubtedly looking for one last mega-payday as he enters the final year of his rookie contract.
The Fresno State product will be seeking, and will almost certainly get, a record-shattering contract when the time comes. In a follow-up tweet, Schefter confirmed that the newly found cap space from the Rodgers agreement will be used to make another run at an Adams extension. Adams was a first-team All-Pro last year and has made the Pro Bowl four straight seasons.
I don’t mean to make fun of Adams, but 12 is gone after this season. Why do a long term deal now?
Because money $
he’s gonna get paid by any team.
I would guess it’s because football is a rough sport and your career could take a serious turn (or end) on any given play. Plus he’s pushing 30. Take the money when you can. He’s excellent but you never know what could happen.
Would he do a long term extension, or is he also seeking a temporary compromise to get out like Rodgers? Coming back to the table would signal a long term deal, but Adams does not seem interested in going through a rebuild. Maybe he would, for another year with Rodgers and a giant payout to tide him over for a few years.
Adams should be in a good position to tell if Love is going to be any good.
This is all getting rather ridiculous. Like a bunch of vultures circling GB and tweeting out whatever just to get a follow or something. But I guess this is a rumors site, so… just taking it to an extreme here.
Let’s just do a Watson for Rodgers deal and be done with it. Or better yet, Wilson for Rodgers, although Russ has a few more years in him…
kripes-brewers –
Yeah, let’s give up Rodgers for a guy who could very well spend the next 10 or so years in prison. That’d be a lot smarter than trading him for some picks or players that will actually play for the team. Think about it

Umm his rookie contract went through the 2017 season, he then signed a 4 year extension.
Mistakes happen but that one is kind of bad.
Adams better structure the deal where he can opt opt out of the contract in the off-season.
