Colts quarterback Carson Wentz has suffered a foot injury that will sideline him for an undetermined period of time (Twitter link via NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo). Garafolo doesn’t sense that the Colts are panicking about it, but it’s definitely a situation to watch as the season draws near.
“He’s with the docs, trying to figure what out the process is,” offensive coordinator Marcus Brady said on Friday (via ESPN.com). “Still evaluating what the next move is, how bad it is. Then we’ll go from there.”
It’s a frustrating setback for Wentz, who is looking to reboot his career under old pal Frank Reich. He is/was slated to be the Week 1 starter for the Colts and they no longer have Jacoby Brissett as a Plan B. Beyond Wentz, the Colts have second-year QB Jacob Eason and Sam Ehlinger — needless to say, they don’t offer the same level of experience or upside.
Wentz will hope for a speedy recovery as he looks to regain his 2017 Pro Bowl form. He was a far cry from that in his final year with the Eagles, before ceding the job to Jalen Hurts. Hurts went on to start in four of his 15 appearances, completing 52% of his passes for 1,061 yards, six touchdowns, and four interceptions. He also added another 354 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 63 carries, showcasing better mobility than the former No. 2 overall pick.
Eagles fans, get ready to see that Colts 2022 1st round pick to a 2nd round pick.
No matter, a 2nd and a 3rd is a pretty decent haul for a broken QB.
that’s the genius of that trade. if it’s a 2nd he’dve been busted. if it’s a 1st you still have a 1st rounder to make moves with.
And if it’s a 2nd he’s busted and probably a high second which is not many slots behind where they’d be with a late 1st rounder if he stays healthy and balls out.
It begins.
The Bears would probably trade them Foles for some Peyton Manning swag.
Shocking
overpay for a piece of glass and this’ll happen
Like 26% of the snaps time?
Here we go…..
Wentz to screw the Eagles one more time…2nd Round Pick now.
Time for Chris Ballard to give Andrew Luck another call.
Better that Ballard calls Mrs. Luck and asks if Andrew can come out and play….
Or Phillip Rivers
Wow he is HURT? That is a Shocker.
Darn , he just got his foot in the door 🙂
As a UGA fan, I hope this opens the door for Jacob Eason to show what he’s got. He’s raw, but he’s got a huge arm. I always felt he got a raw deal in college because of Kirby Smart’s love affair with Jake Fromm
fromm really exploded on the scene his freshman yr against good comp. then each passing year seems to fizzle out more. I know nothing about SEC football life so I don’t know if it was talent, injuries or whatever that contributed
It was other teams scheming against his preferred throws and the Georgia OC not adapting. That and Fromm’s accuracy sunk to Eason-esque levels or putrescence.
Eason did get somewhat of a raw deal as I don’t think he was truly given a chance to win the job back. That being said, his inaccuracy was crippling to an offense that relied on it. Fromm was far more accurate in the beginning and was better at ‘throwing’ receivers open. Eason relied on his big cannon to hit receivers AFTER they had gotten open. That requires a type of scheme the Bulldogs didn’t run. So, problems all the way around.
I hope Eason does very well. He has all of the talent Wentz has, but because his expectations in college were much higher he was under a microscope.
He will be alright, Vegas odds are that he stepped on a Lego. That would put damn near all of us out for an undetermined period of time.
This is known because Mike Mayock called Frank on behalf of Marcus Mariota who wanted to send a get well card.
Until you have stepped on a lego in the middle of the night, you have no idea the pain they can cause. The pain is usually from the aftermath! Knocking stuff off the walls, breaking everything valuable in the process,Unintentionally of course ,it’s just pain you can’t explain
Logo’s are nothing I remember matchbox cars, stepping on the tow trucks and bulldozers would dammed near make you cry.
Eagles fans will complain about the first becoming a second, but would you rather have a second round pick or a broken, whiny quarterback?
Did he ever publicly whine or was it just the overzealous media throwing unsubstantiated stories?
The media really loves to stir up QB controversy, it’s great for ratings. See Russell Wilson.
And should he have been happy to sign a humongous franchise deal to then have them forgot all of the immediate needs and use such a high pick on a backup QB? Forget the competition aspect, he’s getting paid anyway, that was just plain old dumb. That’s a move you make when you have no holes to fill, an aging veteran and a talent too good to pass falls in your lap. They could’ve and should’ve either gotten him another weapon or protection with that pick.
We have a former mvp quarterback available to you in Indy. Cam is ready, willing and able. Make the Patriots an offer.
The whispers are starting already… ‘hoyer hoyer hoyer’ give the fans want they want and trade for big Brian hoyer
I wonder if the Falcons could pull a deal to get out of cap misery. Maybe Ryan for Wentz and Eason. Flacons might have to take back another salary if Colts have one not playing to that number, and possibly give a pick to offset the money. Not certain of all the ways the numbers crunch out, but something could be done.
The Falcons aren’t really close with all their holes and the Colts would be instant contenders. It also gives the Falcons a year to look at Eason to see if he might be worth something. In a two tight end set with verticals, Eason could really take off.
I just want to see Eason get a chance, a real chance.
Sort of a shame – as it was intriguing to wonder if he would resurrect his career under his old coach.
Lots of injuries in training camps this week – makes me wonder if the reduction in off-season work that the players union negotiated is having the opposite of effect of what they intended.
Might want to pimp the brakes a bit on that until they at least release some info about the injury.
Pimpin ain’t easy
B$&?@ better have my money…
It’s hard out here.
