The NFL dead period is officially over, and things are heating up as training camps open. The Bears have agreed to trade receiver Anthony Miller to the Texans, sources told Mike Garafolo of NFL Network (Twitter link).
Here are the details of the deal, via ESPN.com’s Field Yates (on Twitter):
Texans Receive
- Anthony Miller
- 2022 seventh-round pick
Bears Receive
- 2022 fifth-round pick
A divorce between Miller and Chicago has seemed likely most of this year, and now it’s official. Back in March we heard the team was shopping him, and about a month later it was reported the Bears had held trade talks with a number of teams. The 51st overall pick of the 2018 draft, Miller has flashed lots of potential at times but was a big disappointment in 2020.
The emergence of rookie Darnell Mooney last year made Miller expendable in Chicago. It never really kept him off the field, but Miller dealt with significant shoulder issues in both 2018 and 2019. His rookie season he caught seven touchdowns, and he had 656 yards as a sophomore. But he took a step back last season, only finishing with 49 catches for 485 yards despite playing all 16 games.
From the Texans’ perspective, it makes a lot of sense. They’re almost certainly entering a rebuilding year in 2021, so it can’t hurt to take a look at a young player entering the final season of his rookie deal. Miller has shown some promise in the past, and Houston has a pretty uninspiring receiving group outside of Brandin Cooks after letting Will Fuller walk in free agency.
What did they trade him for? A bag of stale chips?
This is the Texans, so probably the next 1st rd pick they have and another mid round pick in 2024.
O Brien is no longer with The Team so it probably will not be that high unless the new guy is the same as O Brien was
Ever heard of the term “sarcasm”
Rip Anthony Miller’s career
looking positively, it’s possible Miller can florish and a short-pass wr to Watson if he returns.
Watson is going to be traded if he isn’t suspended
The day the Bears drafted him his career was over
Dude has the talent. It’s unfortunate he was the odd man out in a system that featured terrible QBs. Not sure Jerry Rice would’ve had a 1000 yard season with Foles/Trubisky throwing him the rock.
Allen Robinson has had two consecutive 1100+ yard seasons.
Meant in the same role that Miller was in.
No you didn’t.
The Bears gave Miller every chance to succeed. According to Brad Biggs of the Trib, he was an undisciplined route runner. And he didn’t do himself any favors getting ejected from a big game.
So I think the question that is being missed is has Miller been vaccinated, and if not can this qualify to fail a physical?
Is there an extra responsibility placed on Houston to verify this?
Another high round misfire by GM Ryan Pace. Is anyone actually surprised?
My thoughts exactly.
Looks like the Bears’ GM wants to get him off the roster before someone in the owner’s box realizes another draft mistake was made.
The only way the Texans have a chance is if they run the ball, but don’t they have Tyrod Taylor now who goes to Cleveland is replaced by Baker Mayfield, gets a pain Injection and they puncture his lung with the Chargers, Bad move by the Texans they kept OC Tim Kelly The Texans passed or attempted to pass on 63.4% of their plays last yr probably was even higher then that. The only other quarterbacks beside Watson are Taylor, Davis Mills, and Jake Driscoll. They have 5 Running backs might has well run the Wishbone. Last yr Watson had 90 of the teams ridiculously low 344 Rush attempts. averaged 37.2 pass plays to 21.5 Run plays a game that is how you go 4-12. The only teams The only team with less rushing attempts the Jaguars. Last yrs wins for the Texans The Texans beat Jacksonville twice, N.E. and Detroit. I am making my picks this year based on who the OC is, and what talent the team has. If you have a pass happy OC or Head Coach calling plays I don’t see you doing very well if your a pass Happy bozo.
