Aaron Rodgers is in the building. Hours after reaching agreement on a revised contract, Rodgers arrived for Tuesday morning’s practice in Green Bay (Twitter link via NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero).

Rodgers touched down in Wisconsin on Monday night. Now, it’s official — Rodgers’ holdout is over. The two sides reached an unexpected compromise that will include the voiding of Rodgers’ 2023 season. Next year, the two sides will revisit their situation, which should mean an extension for the reigning MVP or a parting of ways.
The new deal doesn’t come with any new money, which is consistent with what we’ve heard all along — Rodgers’ holdout was less about dollars and more about loyalty. Meanwhile, his 2021 has been restructured to give the Packers additional cap room. Some of that cash could go towards a reunion with longtime pal Randall Cobb.
So, for the time being, 2020 first-round pick Jordan Love will continue to hold the clipboard. Of course, that won’t stop the speculation as Rodgers begins his “Last Dance.”
annnnnd at starting Quarterback for your Deeeenver Broncos, nummmmber threeee, mmmmDreeewwwww mmmmLoock!
Didn’t they get bridgewater too? My guess would be Teddy starts.
That one was pretty good, I’ll give you that.
Loss Season. When your 3 best players are calling out management, it’s a bad omen. Rodgers, Adams and Z’D Smith)
If your calling out a front office that came within a game of reaching the SB you look like an idiot to most people. Will those players be singing the praises of management if they end up on teams that can only manage 3 or 4 wins a season? I highly doubt it.
The FO didn’t come within a game of the SB. They never took a snap. The players did.
I don’t think either side is totally right or wrong here, but I think this is the prelude to the impending divorces in GB.
The Bucs GM never took a snap either but he’s wearing a ring which acknowledges he made an important contribution to the teams success.
Bill isn’t wearing a ring from 2020, Bruce A is though. At some point you have to accept really good-great players have more influence than any GM or HC.
When you make 3 top 7 players on your roster mad in 1 offseason, it’s not going to turn out well. I’d hope you agree to that point.
not any gm but the one who treated rodgers like a piece of trash. first with jordy. and 9 cb’s drafted with no appzrent improvement in defense.
@ arty. You’re a former Marine and you probably had guys in your platoon that often didn’t agree with superiors at HQ. Did that prevent you guys from achieving your objectives? Things don’t turn out well when individuals consider themselves more important than the team effort…but it doesn’t have to happen that way.
I appreciate you knowing and remembering my background, thank you. You’re correct that disagreements happen everywhere. And yes, in the military, you can’t tell your superiors to FO. However that superior also his own chain of command. And when it’s openly known that he is severely disliked by his platoon, that’s not ignored either.
You could argue that Rodgers started this mess and the rest followed like sheep.
In what way does Green Bay refusing to be competitive qualify as Rodgers starting this mess? I get that you think he should just accept his role on the team, but how in creation do you think that Green Bay’s refusal to get better during their competitive window is Rodgers’ fault?
Fair question. Look he signed a contract. Be a man and honour what you signed. You have 55 other players plus coaches counting on you. And if you’re adams and Rodgers is gone and you don’t have confidence in love then why would you sign there. Same theory for LT. It’s a chain reaction. Now the GM gets to decide plain and simple. Who cares about morally in this case if the GM decides to forego Rodgers input. You don’t only draft for today but also for tomorrow. If you think love is the best option on the board at your pick or moving up in the case without giving up a ransom then that’s the move. For a team who was so close to making the super bowl you can think about the future. It’s the GM’s right. Don’t infringe on them and honour what you signed.
Honor? That GM signed a contract to make the team competitive enough to win a Super Bowl. He hasn’t done that, and he hasn’t even given it his best effort.
There were MULTIPLE obvious signings/picks he could have made to win a championship last year or the year before. Instead, he stuck to his self indulgent plan to look beyond his current window for the slight possibility that he might win one later. And yet, it’s somehow Rodgers’ fault that he doesn’t trust an incompetent regime that’s clearly out for itself, even at the expense of winning. Don’t blame this on honor or contracts. Gutekunst is the one shirking his responsibility here.
I am sure the waterboy has a ring too.
“… which is consistent with what we’ve heard all along — Rodgers’ holdout was less about dollars and more about loyalty.”
No, Rodgers clearly talked to Tom Brady during his golf match about how Brady got the Patriots to allow him to become a free agent. Rodgers plan is to do the same thing, i.e., play for someone else as a big money free agent in 2023 (or in 2022 if the Packers want to get something for him in a trade).
I think I’d like your idea of a golf conspiracy a bit more if it included Bill Murray and a groundhog.
Good theory, except for the fact that all this started way before the golf match.
sounds like he is a part owner now
Part owner with all the suckers who bought worthless Packer “stock”.
Rodgers = drama. Period. One of the greats for sure, but right now he’s an overpaid, whiny dude with absolutely no jewelry.
He won a ring and three MVPs. That sort of needs to be noted here.
uhhhhh……someone didn’t think before posting this.
maybe he sold that super bowl ring he has?
Okay, he’s coming across as if maybe Daninca was the dude in the relationship and he needed a break
I suppose now there are two questions: how much does Rodgers try to play well to demonstrate his value versus taking it easy to not get hurt, and what type of deal will Adams push for length-wise?
I suspect Rodgers won’t do much more than he needs to to keep the offense running in order to not get hurt. He may spend more time with Love to set him up for next year so management lets him walk without a fuss. But I don’t think that we’ll see too many 4th quarter Hail Marys rolling out of the pocket for Rodgers this year. The one thing this agreement does is it opens up the field of suitors for him, so he’ll have to take his time evaluating where he could go. Preserving his value in the face of that uncertainty very well could be his strategy.
Enjoy your comments but I’m a little confused as to how Rodgers is going to “open up the field of suitors” by dogging it through the season, as your suggesting he may do.
Fair question, I should have clarified. I meant that he would possibly be a free agent, meaning that he could have a choice of several teams at a new contract value versus a more limited choice of available trade partners and on his current deal.
I don’t think he’ll just mail it in to the point where he won’t be competitive this year, though I wouldn’t be surprised if he did. What I do think is that he won’t take as many risks as he did, say, last year. I think he may be more content to let LeFleur run the offense through Aaron Jones. But I wrote that before the Packers traded for Cobb, which does speak to Rodgers wanting to compete this year, so who knows.
Hard to agree he will take it easy. He wants to win. So I doubt he lays off.
If he wanted to take it easy and avoid injury he could just retire. It’s hard to see how going through the motions and faking it, ever really benefits a player.
Rodgers wanted out.
The Packers wanted him to stay.
He stayed.
Gotta say I’m absolutely shocked and I was absolutely wrong. I couldn’t see him playing for them after all that drama. He sure seemed like he was hellbent on never playing another season there. This proves he’s definitely a “complicated fella”
It’s so rare that anyone at PFR admits to being absolutely wrong that offering seth3120 an up vote is a no brainer.
