Derek Carr has had a rotating cast of receivers since he joined the Raiders as a second-round pick in 2014. So, when he was recently asked about the opportunity to team up with impending free agent wideout (and former college teammate) Davante Adams in 2022, Carr was naturally on board.

“I’ve learned in this business, you never shut the door on anything,” Carr said to Bri Mellon of ABC30 (via NFL.com’s Nick Shook). “I know that he’s obviously the best receiver — everyone said one of the best, he’s the best receiver in the NFL. The guy is unbelievable. He’s been one of my best friends since we were in college together. I love the guy.
“I would always welcome to play with him again. I think it would unlock some things in both of us that people haven’t seen yet. I’m always open to that and I will be recruiting very hard. When that time comes, it will be a full-court press.”
Carr was a two-time Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Year during his collegiate career, and a big reason for those accolades was the presence of Adams. Carr threw for 9,187 yards between the 2012 and 2013 seasons, with Adams collecting 3,031 yards through the air (plus 38 touchdowns).
While the Raiders have done some work to improve Carr’s receiving corps (including acquiring Antonio Brown and drafting Henry Ruggs in the first round of the 2020 draft), the Raiders have still had a tight end lead the squad in receiving in each of the past three years (Jared Cook and Darren Waller (twice)). Even assuming that Ruggs is able to develop into a top-end starter, the team would surely still be in the market for some receiving help.
Considering the Packers uncertain future at quarterback, it’s only natural that front offices are dreaming of adding Adams to their offense. Of course, Green Bay could end that sentiment by extending the wideout, or they could alternatively franchise the receiver following the 2021 campaign. Still, if Aaron Rodgers is gone, Adams could push for a trade, in which case Carr and the Raiders would presumably be at the front of the line.
People have been saying Broncos as most likely Rodgers destination but I think it could be Raiders.
Carr and a first for Rodgers. Gives the pack another option at QB if they don’t think Love is ready and I think Carr only has another year or 2 on his deal. Could even keep Carr long term if the fit works. I’m sure Adams would be more likely to resign too.
For raiders, I mean we’ve heard QB rumors seemingly for years now so I can’t imagine Gruden is super high on Carr. Instantly makes the Raiders a real contender.
I’d rather the raiders trade Gruden and keep Carr.
QB is our strongest position and HC our weakest.
A QB upgrade wouldn’t go as far as a new HC, WR, or DE.
Your coach is actually alright…as long as he sticks to coaching. Gruden’s issue, as it’s always been, is his insistence on getting “his guys” on the team and entrenched as either starters or high contributors. Setting a team mentality is crucial, I believe that, but Gruden has always had an issue playing favorites at the cost of talent.
He’s not the worst we’ve seen by any means-see Bill O’Brien, for example-but he should be less involved in personnel decisions. Not excluded, mind you, as no coach should be, but he should realize that he needs to adapt to his players better and stop forcing his favorites onto the field.
As a Packer fan, I think Carr is darn good, just needs a team with a real HC. Throw in a defensive star with that first and you have my attention…
Would take more than that. Carr and 2 firsts at least…..
As a Raiders fan, we have our QB. There is zero need for Rodgers. Zero.
The team needs defense, and a real coach.
Lol….you sure about that? 1 winning season out of 7, hasn’t seen a pro bowl in the past 4 years (and only ever saw the 3 he did when mahomes, Lamar and allen weren’t around yet in the afc), a QBR somewhere in 50-60s….
But yeah zero need for the mvp of the league. Good luck winning with DC. Not that you were getting ARod anyways…..
CMP-ATT YDS AVG TD INT
2019: 31-39 326 79.5 2 2 FUMBLE
2016: 27-45 287 60.0 3 1
2014: 19-34 178 55.9 1 2
2010: 17-30 244 56.7 0 2
That stat line belongs to an NFC North QB, and no, it wasn’t Trubisky. That’s Mr. MVP’s NFC Championship numbers.
Oh, and that’s a QBR of 78.
Don’t want him, and stand by it.
How many times has Carr taken you to the Conf title game? How many playoff games…..just the playoffs….has the guy even PLAYED in?
ZERO!!!
You keep dissing ARod while saying your massive pile of hot garbage at QB is worth a darn. You desperately need a QB. Gruden knows it too.
No, take him and his high salary and demands to make player personnel decisions. We’ll take Carr and a couple firsts and call it a day
Carr has said he will retire before playing for another squad and is highly involved in the community(both Oakland and Vegas) as well as religiously. I dont know for a fact but he seems like a bigger picture outside of football guy. Who may just hang them up if the situation isn’t right..
Lmao as well as religiously. The hell does that mean? Bum is a bum is a bum
I think it may be more than an average-above average at best QB(top10-15) and a 1st. Probably 3 1st’s, or a 1st and two or three 2nd’s, as the 1st round picks from any Aaron Rodgers led team is usually somewhere in the 20’s.
Rodgers with Waller and Ruggs might really be the best receiver corps he’s had in a long time to be brutally honest, despite names like Adams and Jimmy Graham, Graham wasn’t the same player in Green Bay that he was in New Orleans
Since that complicated guy isn’t going to play there again, might as well get picks for Adams.
Plot twist… Raiders trade Carr to GB.
BBC
You really love the British Broadcasting Corporation
What constitutes tampering in the NFL?
Players are not considers tampering
“While the Raiders have done some work to improve Carr’s receiving corps (including acquiring Antonio Brown and drafting Henry Ruggs in the first round of the 2020 draft”
I wouldn’t define that as “work” or “improving”. They brought in a headcase, and passed on about 4 or 5 more talented WRs to take Ruggs.
Wouldnt this just mean Aaron Rodgers is the Raidas new QB?
Lmao as well as religiously. The hell does that mean? Bum is a bum is a bum
I thought Adams was a solid WR, then I saw a special with him, maybe nfl films, but I grew to appreciate him even more, dude is very intelligent, studies his butt off and has very good character. I hope he gets a solid deal that lifts him over all the squeaky wheel players. we need more players like Mega, Julio Jones and Adams as role models for the youth.
The Packers equation is easy. If Love looks like a starting Pro Bowl QB, then Rodgers gets traded and gets $110 million guaranteed. If Love looks like a backup, then Rodgers gets $110 million guaranteed from Green Bay.
Unless you’ve got some inside info I don’t think it’s that easy at all. Rodgers isn’t pushing for a new deal he’s demanding a trade. If Rodgers is willing to push the subject the Packers could have the choice between him sitting and getting nothing in return or trading him for a nice haul of picks and/or players. It may be possible for him to return I guess that’s up to Rodgers but given what’s been said that’s no foregone conclusion
