Roberto Aguayo will have to find his next NFL gig elsewhere. The Patriots waived the kicker today, per ESPN’s Mike Reiss (via Twitter). The team also waived long snapper Wes Farnsworth and signed offensive lineman R.J. Prince.
Following a standout career at Florida State, Aguayo was selected with the 59th-overall pick by the Buccaneers back in 2016, making him the first kicker since 2005 (Mike Nugent, Jets) to be selected in the second round. Aguayo struggled throughout his rookie campaign, connecting on only 71-percent of his field goal attempts. He was replaced the following offseason, and he hasn’t seen the field for an NFL game since.
Following stints with the Bears, Panthers, and Chargers, Aguayo joined the Patriots last Decemnow ber. After spending time on their practice squad, he inked a reserve/futures deal. Barring another signing, New England’s kicking competition will come down to veteran Nick Folk and undrafted free agent Quinn Nordin.
Farnsworth joined the Patriots back in May and participated in their minicamp. The former undrafted free agent was competing with Joe Cardona for the starting gig, but it sounds like the veteran long snapper has won the job.
Prince, a 2018 undrafted free agent out of North Carolina, has spent time with the Steelers and Ravens. He hasn’t seen time in an NFL game.

Worst 2nd round pick in NFL history”
* Traded up for — There I fixed it for you
Decemnow ber. The most wonderful time of the year …
Shame how far Aguayo has fallen in such a short time. Hope he finds his way.
I can’t help but pronounce it that way now.
he’s far worse a second rd then damn near anyone listed here as the guy was a kicker a kicker not a qb rb wr a kicker u don’t take kickers that high up . there’s like a one in million Chance a kicker in rd one or two will be a hof or close so u don’t take them that high up . the Raiders took one in rd one and they had him till damn near the end of his career and he actually was a kicker worth taking in rd one or two but when u draft em u have zero clue but drafting a kicker that high makes no sense as there are so many out there compared to how many jobs available.
I’d take one that high if he was a generational guy because special teams win and lose a lot of games. Now that said, I reiterate, a kicker has to be generational, like monster leg and machine-like accuracy.
Actually, the record for 1st and 2nd round kickers and punters isn’t bad. Aguayo is the 20th of all time, I believe, and aside from Hall of Famer Ray Guy, Chester Marcol, Chris Bahr, Rohn Stark, Chip Lohmiller, Jason Hanson, Todd Sauerbrun and Sebastian Janikowski all probably justified their being picked that high. That’s eight out of 20, 40%, which is probably not a bad ratio for successful 1st and 2nd rounders compared to most positions.

The Worst 2nd round pick in Buc history. Barely edging out Desean Jackson wideout from App State and 80’s pick Booker Reese out of Bethune Cookman whom they tried to pick in the first round but turned in the Wrong player card in the draft… picked Sean Farrell luckily instead! Tom Brady saved Jason Lichts job with the Bucs
