The Lions have shown some interest in signing two-time All-Pro running back Todd Gurley. It’s not clear if he’s still on the radar after their meeting last week, but Georgia alum D’Andre Swift would be happy to welcome him to Detroit’s backfield.
“Knowledge. Experience,” Swift said when asked how he would benefit from playing with Gurley (via USA Today). “I’d be happy if he come here as well. I just want to compete with these guys. Just to have him in the building, that’d be good.”
Aside from their college connection, Gurley also has familiarity with the Lions’ new GM. Gurley’s best years in L.A. overlapped with Brad Holmes‘ Rams tenure, including 2,500+ rushing yards between 2017 and 2018. He’s been slowed by knee trouble ever since, but he could be an interesting partner for Swift now that Kerryon Johnson and Adrian Peterson are out of the picture.
Here’s more from the NFC North:
- Packers left tackle David Bakhtiari is ahead of schedule as he returns from last year’s season-ending ACL tear (via Matt Schneidman of The Athletic). “He’s really working hard. I think he came back and he’s in excellent shape. We’re just going to take it one day at a time,” head coach Matt LaFleur said. “I think he’s a little bit ahead of schedule but then again there’s a long way to the start of the season. We’ll see where he’s at when it comes to that time.” Pro Football Focus ranked Bakhtiari as the league’s No. 2 tackle last year before his December injury. So, regardless of which quarterback he’s protecting, the Packers are counting on his presence.
- Speaking of which, Packers running back Aaron Jones says he didn’t chat with Aaron Rodgers about the QB’s plans before inking his extension (Twitter link via Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette). “This is home,” Jones said. “This is where I love to be.”
The North should be a good division this year.
Da Bears: Hopefully they found a legit QB & have a solid WR and running game. Stout D
Lions: look like a run 1st team w/ TE’s getting a lot of looks. D can only improve.
GB: All depends on #12. If he’s there, they compete; if not, they draft in the top 5. HoF Qb’s do make a difference.
Vikes: Solid OL, WR’s, and running game, still have Cousins though! D will improve as well.
Lol…the packers only “compete” if 12 shows up?
You misspelled “win the north easily” if he’s there.
No team in the north got any better except maybe chicago by dumping trubisky, but dalton sure as hell isn’t leading them to anything and fields is too young to do much this year either.
Dalton very well could lead them to something. There are just teams in the way.
If Minnesota’s defense improved, they might win the division. The offense vastly improved itself halfway through last year and Cousins played very well himself during that period. Green Bay’s chances, as we all know, lay with Rodgers. The question is not even whether he come back at this point; Rodgers will have to decide to play at as high a level as he has previously as well. If he ends up coming back but mails it in, the Packers will not contend.
So, if either of those two things fail to happen, then yes, Dalton could potentially oversee the Bears contending for the division title. He is a good quarterback at best, and average at worst, which much better than the uncertain flip flopping that Chicago had last year. Above average QBs like Dalton still have value as starters-they don’t need to be superheroes, just competent.
What a surprise! Another pompous Packer fan. Every year they will win the SB. LOL Get over it. Rodgers is gone. And your team is betting on a guy named Love.
Said the guy too embarrassed to say who he cheers for…is bleeding blue Detroit?
Yeah I wouldn’t talk much smack about my team either….good luck with Goff.
Least my team was good….ever.
You know what they say when you ASSume. Well you just did it. I am a proud BEARS fan!. Before your typical juvenile insults you should know I do not care what you say. I look forward to the Packers living at the bottom of the league when they lose Rodgers. No matter how many worthless shares of “stock” you buy you can’t change that.
BTW, Bleedin Blue represents being a Cubs fan.
You lost me at Vikings OL solid
Jamaal Williams should do well for the Lions.
I’m in the minority, but Williams I do not believe will ever really be more than a complimentary piece. He improved incredibly with the Packers, but he’s just not an explosive enough runner outside or a powerful enough runner inside to be anything more than a depth option. He is great in pass protection and great in the locker room and is a very hard worker, but Williams just doesn’t have the athleticism to be a game changer in my mind.
