It’s a done deal. On Thursday, the Bears struck agreement with first-round quarterback Justin Fields (Twitter link via NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero).
Per the terms of his slot, Fields will collect $17.9MM on his fully guaranteed four-year deal. That includes a healthy $11.1MM signing bonus for the No. 11 overall pick.
The Bears already had Andy Dalton heading into the draft, but they couldn’t pass up Fields. Meanwhile, Giants GM Dave Gettleman couldn’t resist the urge to trade. With that, the Bears moved up to No. 11 in exchange for pick No. 20, pick No. 164, a 2022 first-round pick, and a 2022 fourth-round pick.
Some evaluators preferred Zach Wilson and Trey Lance, who were the first QBs to come off the board after Trevor Lawrence. Regardless, the Bears were thrilled to land the Ohio State product. In just two short years as a Buckeye, he cemented himself as one of the most accomplished players in program history. The dual-threat QB threw for 5,373 yards, 63 touchdowns, and nine interceptions across 22 starts.
Now, the two-time Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year will try and work his magic in Chicago.
A lot of teams are going to regret not taking or trading up for Fields. Falcons should’ve taken him at 4.
Did he suddenly start reading progressions?
He reads progressions just fine. His vertical offense just didn’t have many.
Weird how no one wants to talk about all the 50-50 balls Wilson was throwing up all year against terrible defenses – or how Lance looked like hot garbage in his one game last year.
Nah, let’s just talk about some general stat that tells almost no story about Fields – one that isn’t even agreed upon by the people reporting it. Depending who you ask, Fields either never went through progressions or he went through progressions more often than any other QB in the draft.
Oh dugdog you heard some bs and you take it as fact huh.
Ok you are on record.
He’s gonna cost some folks their jobs in SF, ATL, CAR, DEN (if they don’t get Watson or Rodgers) and especially SF who traded draft capital to get Jimmy G only to trade a FU** ton more draft capital to replace with an inexperienced dude from North Baked Potato St who played against guys that will be selling insurance this time next year.
….or, Lance will someday join a long list of HOFers that played 1AA football. Time will tell Bryzzo.
The only jobs he’s going to cost are in Chicago
Or Lance will suck
This is for the clueless posters that criticize Lance’s college.

And this list is based on players who played AFTER 1978 when the 1A and 1AA split occurred. Before 1978 the list is just as long and includes Walter Payton.
SB Nation? LOL.
They listed halloffamers and Allstars. It’s not an opinion piece.
The biggest knock on Fields is that the Bears front office thinks he has talent. With their track record, that is a big red flag.
As a Bears fan, you’re right.
The problem for Fields is that if (should I be saying when?) Ryan Pace gets axed the next GM might just decide he wants his own guy to run the offense.
perfect Bears follow up move, let Robinson walk-
