Ryan Kerrigan is staying in the NFC East. On Monday morning, Kerrigan bid farewell to the Washington Football Team. And, minutes later, we learned that he’s agreed to join up with the Eagles (Twitter link via NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport). The Eagles have since confirmed the signing as a one-year deal.
“I’ll never be able to sum up what these past ten years have meant to me in an Instagram post, but what I can say is that they have been some of the best of my life,” Kerrigan wrote (Instagram link). “I hope you had as much fun watching me as I did playing for you. Thank you, Washington, for everything.”
Up until now, the former first-round pick had spent his entire career in D.C. Along the way, he collected four Pro Bowl nominations and 95.5 sacks to top Dexter Manley for the franchise record. Kerrigan started every game for his first nine seasons with the club. But, last year, he was mostly relegated to a reserve role and notched just 5.5 sacks for Ron Rivera. As a result, it was widely expected that he would move on.
Now, the 32-year-old (33 in August) will suit up for his longtime rival. The Steelers and Bengals (Twitter link via ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter) also showed interest, but he felt that the Eagles would be his best fit. Currently, he profiles as the Birds’ No. 4 DE, likely behind Brandon Graham, Derek Barnett, and Josh Sweat.
With Kerrigan off the board, other edge-needy teams can still consider the likes of Melvin Ingram, Justin Houston, Everson Griffen, Olivier Vernon, Ezekiel Ansah, Dion Jordan, and Adrian Clayborn.
Great move by the eagles…
He was a great player for the WFT, sad he is moving to the Eagles but I wish him the very best!
Will probably be a HOFer if he has a couple more productive seasknd

He’s on the edge, but Kerrigan’s stats support it. My first thought is no, but there are less prolific players in, so while I don’t think of him in that sense, it’s hard to make an argument against.
Coming from a guy that neither loves nor hates the WFT, Ryan Kerrigan was always one of my favorite defenders in the league. I think he’s also one of the most underrated players of the last decade.
Why on earth, other than guaranteed play over Barnett, would u go to the Eagles? Wont win anything here.
Won’t win anything for WFT, either
my guess is he’s looking for something of a bounce back and then trying to win something. good showcase location.
ooh! this is kinda exciting actually.
Awkward.
A solid player. Age could be an issue soon, but for now this is a good move.
Kinda surprising but not. Alot of long tenured vets sign with a rival for a year or two. Last time eagles did this didnt end well.(demarco murray)
reminds me of mcnabb going to washington even though it was different circumstances.
Eagles will bounce back this season.
Trade out Ertz to go with Wentz and Pederson leaving. Now you have a much younger, confident and hungry offence with Hurts, Sanders, Smith, Reagor, JJAW and Goedert. The offensive line which was very bad last season will be healthy with Lane Johnson, Brandon Brooks and Andre Dillard returning from injury to go with Jason Kelce, Jordan Maitala and Landon Dickerson.
Kerrigan adds to the defensive front which also includes Fletcher Cox and Brandon Graham. You are still weak at LB and could also improve in the backfield but do have Darius Slay.
I still think we should trade Zach Ertz for Jordan Hicks. That’ll help add something to LB without losing anything on offence. I’d also offer Derek Barnett for Bradley Roby. Hopefully with these two moves we would be good defensively while letting the young offence grow
