There’s no shortage of suitors for the Falcons’ No. 4 overall pick, but it’s not a given that they’ll trade down. There’s also the possibility that they’ll stay put and draft a quarterback. Meanwhile, a number of league sources tell Peter King of NBC Sports that they expect the Falcons to stand pat and select Florida tight end Kyle Pitts.
[RELATED: Cowboys Infatuated With Pitts?]
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard the Falcons connected to the dynamic athlete. Pitts personally believes that the Falcons are high on him and new head coach Arthur Smith would reportedly prefer to take a non-quarterback while banking on the continued health of Matt Ryan. For all intents and purposes, the Falcons know that Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson won’t be available at No. 4, which leaves two of the three remaining QBs (Mac Jones, Trey Lance, and Justin Fields) on the table for them. That’s not a bad group to choose from, but they may prefer Pitts’ combination of wide receiver skills coupled with an offensive lineman’s wingspan.
There’s little doubt that the Falcons are high on Pitts, because just about every team is drooling over his potential. That includes teams like the Cowboys, who are well out of range. Jerry Jones has more pressing needs to fill than the tight end position, but some believe it’s possible that he could move up the board for him anyway.
I love Pitts, but as a falcon hater I hope they continue to neglect that pitiful defense. They need to resist the temptation and trade down. Golden opportunity to net more high picks and get a top defender in an offense heavy draft.
Draft is pretty weak on defense. There will be “gems” found but not much top heavy talent.
Surtain, Kwity, parsons, Phillips, Rousseau, Horn, farley. All these guys would be helpful. Take any of those guys plus a couple extra high picks over a tight end, even Pitts.
I agree, when has the last 1st rd TE been any good? I understand the need for one and getting Ryan another target, but taking a TE is risky. they’d be smart to trade down, get picks and draft D.
Hockenson is pretty good
Bubba Franks, Jeremy Shockey, Dallas Clark, Vernon Davis, Greg Olsen, Hockenson too. Not alot of great talent in history, but there are a few.
Tony Gonzalez
They should trade down but if u stand pat its gotta be sewell or pitts (or qb but id prefer not).
I think pretty much any move they make, other than QB, is a good one. Pitts, Sewell, defense, Chase, moving back for a bunch of picks. They have so many holes but they’re set at QB for at least three more years.
Agree. The best play would be to trade back and stock defense, but the offer has to be right. If not, Pitts is a good pick.
If they don’t take a QB, they basically don’t mess it up.
Please draft Micah Parsons. Thank you.
Who was faster: Sid Bream or Spanky LeValliere?
I’m a Uga fan… I think Pitts is a generational talent and clearly would make the Falcons significantly better on offense. Here’s the prob, Matt Ryan needs time to throw the dang ball to all the weapons we already have. Plus it would be nice to having a better running game. Regardless, that defense is a nightmare and needs to be completely rebuilt. As one said, this is a golden opportunity to trade down and get significantly better as a team rather than 1 position. I don’t think we need to draft a QB, although I’d like too. But I just can’t see why we would upgrade in an area we don’t necessarily need an upgrade when we, in theory, can make a lot of upgrades elsewhere.
Then again.. we traditionally haven’t been amazing at drafting and developing talent
Whether they are rebuilding or reloading, the Falcons should take Sewell. Providing pass protection is important whether your riding with Matt Ryan or going with someone young at the position.
Honestly our defense is terrible. And we play in a division where all the offensives are crazy good.
If we go defense in draft our terrible defense becomes league average but it will still suck because the division we play in
I much rather turn our average offense into an explosive offense by drafting pitts and hopfully a strong RB in 2nd round. At least we can keep pace on offense with the other teams in our division.
If we go defense we essentially waste the 2 of the final years of Ryan and Julio
I think Arthur Blank makes it right and gives Ryan all the weapons he needs to succeed for 1 final push
