This week, Deshaun Watson‘s lawyer requested that one of his anonymous plaintiffs be identified. On Friday, the attorney representing Watson’s accusers said that nine of his 12 clients are willing to put their names on their lawsuits (Twitter link via Aaron Reiss of The Athletic).
To date, only two women has been willing to go public with her identity. Now, the majority of Tony Buzbee’s clients are willing to go on the record. That could prove to be a huge barrier for the quarterback’s defense.
In total, 22 women have accused the Texans quarterback of sexual assault or misconduct. Ashley Solis — the first woman to publicly identify herself — recently spoke with Houston police, potentially taking Watson from civil suits to criminal charges. Solis says Watson touched her with his genitals during a massage session — other accusers have made similar claims in recent weeks.
Watson’s attorney, Rusty Hardin, says Solis sought a $100K settlement before she filed suit. Hardin also disclosed emails discussing the settlement, though such pre-litigation communications are fairly standard in civil matters.
Meanwhile, the Texans are closely monitoring the situation, along with the league office.
In a letter to season-ticket holders Monday, the Texans addressed the Watson developments.
“We want to assure you that we take these allegations very seriously,” the McNair family said in a statement. “While we await the conclusion of these investigations, we express our strong stance against any form of sexual assault. Our family and the entire Houston Texans organization are deeply troubled by any form of abuse and we condemn this type of behavior.”
It’s funny though that media coverage has been scarce…isn’t it the media’s job to report on news?
Depends on the shade
Doesn’t fit the narrative
In fairness, Undisputed have broadcast three long segments on the situation.
The NFL will hit him with a hard with a lengthy suspension if he’s convicted and if he’s gets off he’ll get hit with a max suspension under the Collective bargaining agreement
“If he gets off”? Isn’t what this is all about?
Too soon, bro
Sounds Watson’s camp knows their screwed and are just throwing up a Hail Mary pass. It’s slimy but the play here is definitely to get their identities to the public to see if he has enough crazy fans to harass, bully, and stalk these women into backing down.
If it’s in the court of public opinion anyway, names and faces may as well be out there. One of the first two accusers public statement did seem convincing and fairly damning. Short of a crime though.
Short of a crime? If some guy put his penis on your daughter would it sill be short of a crime? If he exposed himself to your daughter how would you feel? Not sure if you have kids but I can tell you as a dad and grandfather I would be pissed.
I actually was when a neighbor did it to my daughter in law. I wanted to go beat him but we called the cops and the problem is the he said she said. It is a tough one to crack but 22 seems like enough to show a pattern. I think it took like 4-5 complaints and 2 by minors and the neighbor made a deal for a misdemeanor. Lost his job as a firefighter but wife stayed. Also had to go to counseling.
If that was a crack about penis size it was a poor attempt.
Ah the old abuser attacking the accuser tactic.
It works if you’re a Clinton or a certain shade and not cosby
I wonder if the Texans will be the first team to be 0-17 this year?
Tyrod Taylor is pretty good. 6-11 is more like it.
I’m usually one to immediately back and believe accusers when something like this comes forward, but at first I was, admittedly, skeptical because of Watson’s (supposedly) great character. Now, it almost seems like a forgone conclusion that’s he’s a sexual predator. Maybe a few of these are just cash grabs (which is a heinous act in and of itself), but if 22 women are coming forward and most are willing to release their names and file criminal charges, it’s likely that he’s guilty and should be held accountable.
How is Watson asking for someone to massage his groin area considered to be Sexual Assault? Literally, there are people on this list who have filed a complaint saying that they ‘felt uncomfortable’ when they found out he was naked under his own towel. Then WHY DID YOU KEEP MASSAGING HIM?
I’m not saying anything – I’m just curious. Seriously.
