The Bears may be looking to jump up the draft board in pursuit of a quarterback. Jason La Canfora reports (via Twitter) that the Bears “have canvassed the teams currently selecting between 7-10,” with the front office focused on drafting a signal caller. Chicago is currently slated to pick at No. 20, which would probably be too late in the round to select any of Mac Jones, Justin Fields, or Trey Lance.

There have been rumblings throughout the offseason that the Bears could be looking to trade up for a quarterback, although we heard recently that the organization hadn’t been particularly active in trade discussions. With general manager Ryan Pace and head coach Matt Nagy potentially on the hot seat, it would be a surprise if they don’t take a bona fide starter with their first-round selection. The team seems to be set in 2021 with Andy Dalton and Nick Foles under center; if Pace and Nagy opt for a young quarterback, there’s a chance they won’t be around to see their plan come to fruition. Chicago has plenty of immediate needs, so there’s some merit to retaining their draft selections and adding players at other positions.
On the flip side, neither Dalton nor Foles are very inspiring choices, and the front office may believe the Bears have a higher upside in 2021 with any of the rookie quarterbacks. Head coach Matt Nagy even seemed to acknowledge that the organization has been eyeing a handful of rookies QBs during a recent meeting with reporters.
La Canfora notes that the Patriots have joined the Bears in shopping around for a top-1o pick, and the reporter believes that one of New England or Chicago will ultimately be successful in their pursuit of a rookie quarterback. We heard a similar sentiment earlier today, with one report indicating that New England could look to trade up from No. 15 all the way to the Falcons at No. 4.
For the sake of all those qb’s let’s hope they don’t find a trade partner.
Every GM with picks 1-19 are hoping Pace calls with a trade
Pace is gone. One of the worst GM’s in all,of sports.
Two firsts and a 4th plus number 20 will get you Cowboys pick at 10.
The 49ers had to give up the 12 pick, two future first-rounders, and a third-round pick to get the 3rd pick. I would think most teams would find that price to be too much getting to 10 but if anyone is stupid enough to do it – it’s Pace. He should be looking to trade back. His only redeeming positive as a GM is the ability to actually draft decent talent in rounds 2-5. His first round draft picks have been Kevin White (injuries/bust), Leonard Floyd (declined 5th year option), Trubisky (bust), and Roquan Smith (home run). The guy is batting .250 in the first round. Brutal.
So basically, you’re saying 3 firsts and a 4th. About the same price the 49ers paid to go to 3? No way.
Jimmy G for 20 and foles. Use your 2nd and 20 to move back up. Draft Pitts at 3 take mac Jones later
Jimmy isn’t netting a 1st.. and Dalton = Jimmy maybe even better since he can stay healthy
Lol no way in the world. Jimmy G isn’t much better than what you have
When Pace stated “everything is on the table” he basically confirmed that he has no idea how to formulate a draft plan. The Bears will be using the Magic 8 ball approach.
Which sadly increases their chances of doing the right thing.
This kind of criticism is so stupid! The Jags have the most obvious pick in many years. The Jets traded Darnold so we know they are going QB, and San Fran traded up to 3 because they obviously like 1-2 guys out of Wilson, Fields, Jones, Lance. EVERY other team…..guess what…..EVERYTHING is on the table. The Falcons might take Pitts or trade back, Detroit & Denver could take a QB or trade back, New England, Washington, Chicago could trade up, stand pat or trade down. If you are sitting at 20, you better have a handful of guys you’d be willing to trade up for, a handful you’d take at 20, and if all gone you’d love to trade down. That is preparation! I’m not in any way defending Pace or his record. I’ll be skeptical no matter what he does, but to say the Bears are dumb because they don’t have the entire draft planned out already is idiocy! What if they have all their plans on trading up to 8 for a QB and then NE and Washington trade up to #4 & #5? Wouldn’t they look like idiots then if they never even considered anything else? I mean come on!!! People act like the Bears should have the whole night figured out based on Kiper’s final mock draft!
The Bears are hardly “set” with Dalton and Foles. Pace was willing to pay a king’s ransom for Wilson because that’s how much pressure he’s under from ownership to show real progress at the QB position. He will trade up. I wouldn’t be surprised if he went all the way to 4.
Dunno… It would take something approaching (or maybe exceeding) a “Ditka-esque” offer to get to #4, just to pick the fourth QB chosen in the draft…
My second rounder this year, my second rounder next year, and my second rounder the following year.
I’m preparing for disappointment. the Bears are an awful franchise that continues to make awful decisions. if they exceed my expectations I may smile a bit, but it’s more likely I say, “yep, same old bears” after the draft. The bears need new upper management more than they need a new GM and coach, otherwise it’s just the same crap over and over again.
Jason LA Canfora is never right. Ever. That said #FireRyanPace

Pace won’t make this trade. Ted Phillips will do it with whoever he has chosen to run the Bears new quarterback program. It’s all about enticing a new gm/coach for next year.
It’s the Bears. Obviously they’re going after a new TE.
I would go send the 2021 6th round pick for Marcus Mariota. Play out the year. Wait for a qb to get hurt and send Foles to them for a 3rd or 4th rounder next year. They’ve dug their Graves and will have to lay in them after this year. If Nagy wants to keep his job he needs to not do any play calling. After he stopped doing the play calling the bears were better.
Surely better to give Dalton a shot. If Dalton blows it, there won’t be any need to trade up in 2022 for a very high draft pick.
I’d go with Dalton and Marcus
No matter what the Bears do, it’ll be a wet fart. Pace gonna Pace.
