After trading back from No. 11, the Giants drafted Florida wide receiver Kadarius Toney with the No. 20 pick. This marks the fifth-straight year that the Giants have added an offensive player with one of their first-round picks.
After playing quarterback in high school, it took some time for Toney to find his role on Florida’s offense. He played in mostly a backup role through his first three seasons in college, but he finally had a breakout campaign this past year. The prospect finished the campaign with 1,145 yards from scrimmage and 11 touchdowns on only 89 carries, earning him some high marks among draft pundits.
Toney projects to be a slot receiver in the NFL, but his Swiss Army Knife profile offers him an even greater upside. Toney will also be able to contribute on special teams, with the prospect having returned 28 kicks and punts during his collegiate career.
While the rookie will have plenty of time to build a rapport with Daniel Jones, it’s uncertain if Toney will see a significant role in 2021. The Giants added Kenny Golladay in free agency, and they’re already rostering the likes of Darius Slayton, Sterling Shepard, and Dante Pettis.
Smh, we were doing everything right up until then. Thought Paye or Rousseau was the move.
Are you a scout ? Or do you work in public relations for the giants ? Can you send me one of those fan packs
I’m a scout. I can send you a fan pack. What’s your address?

Was hoping for Defense but like the pick. Make or break year for Daniel Jones.
lmao and just like that, Gettleman returns some of the good will he earned with that Bears trade.
Ehhh it’s not the best he could have done, but it’s not that bad. They did need a receiver, but Toney is more like Slayton. Most of the receivers in this class seem to be similar-smaller, agile, fast RAC or speed threats. I think that they could have waited and gotten Bateman (who is one of the best rounded receivers outside of Chase or Smith) or Moore, but it’s not the worst. They really need a big wideout with great hands, but the Eagles jumped them to grab Smith, who might not be big but answers the hands question handily.
I’d like to see NYG grab an offensive lineman in the second. Most of the edge rushers in this class are slightly questionable. Thing is, the Giants also have to replace Tomlinson as well now inside, and they’re still weak at linebacker. I don’t know if there’s a player in the draft who will give them better production than Martinez and Fackrell inside and on the edge respectively at this moment, though. There may have been a couple of edge rushers available in Paye and Collins that they could have had instead of Toney, but they could have gone with Slater or another lineman instead.
I think they could have gone with Slater or Collins and done well. I think the Eagles jumped them specifically to rob them of Smith, which really mucked up New York’s plan and as such they went with their second best receiver. There are still a lot of decent prospects on the line right now, though, unlike at EDGE. Eichenberg, Humphrey, Brown, Jenkins, Cosmi…it seems like there are more options there than anywhere else.
I agree with pretty much everything you’re saying. I don’t hate this pick, but it was a slight reach, imo. Once they moved back, I assumed the move was offensive line or defensive line. Then a WR in the second.
Agreed there.
I really wanted my Dolphins to grab him
Rosseau in the second round hopefully
I wasn’t really thinking about Toney there, but I certainly don’t hate the pick.
Giants scored 17.5 pts/game last year. You won’t win many games that way, man. He’s a Big Play guy. Can line up in the slot, outside, even the backfield. There’s a role for him with us.
Now.
Gimme a snot knocker in the second. Ideally take another interior O-line in the 3rd, too. Open some holes up for Barkley & keep Jones’ uni clean. Offense looking (potentially) much better.
That’s good!
I know we need help on the edge, but there’s only so much you can accomplish in a single draft.
So I say keep fixing the offense.
Well they had FA as well and the draft last year and didn’t address edge either.
I do get it.
But: going into the draft last year, we had way more overt & pressing weaknesses than we do this year. There was just simply too much work to be done. Something (multiple “things”) went unaddressed.
Understandable.
As for free agency…well, ya got me there. Although, by having the 31st “best” offense in the league I get spending money on it.
Ya know?
Truthfully, my money is one an edge here in the second. 3rd at the latest.
However, last year we gave up 11(!) sacks up the middle. That is untenable. Our interior offensive line absolutely has to be addressed. Plus, our offense needs to be built around Saquon. For that we – also – desperately need another bulldozer &/or athletic lineman or two in the middle. So, I’d like to see that (hopefully) handled today.
As for edge…yeah, I kick that can do the road another day yet. I can see why one wouldn’t though.
you own the dolphins… good for you!
My Grandpa owns a dolphin. Why do you ask?
There is well over a billion dollar difference between owing a dolphin and owning the dolphins
Well Gettleman drafted Curtis Samuel, this dude is basically a clone.
Why spend big money on Golladay if drafting a WR much like Dallas last year with Cooper and Lamb. They hopefully load up on defense in other rounds. They could of even saved money and signed Samuel instead Golladay. Gettleman I still don’t know what you are doing. This time next year hopefully a new GM.
Would like another offensive lineman as well
Would be ecstatic if Smith fell to us in the second. Seems like a real long shot though.
I could easily be talked into Banks there too.
I’ve watched him play for Notre Dame. He will create holes in the NFL. Big. Strong guu. Definitely the type we need.
& He can pass block as well.
Dickerson & Humphrey both could plug the middle. Like to see the Giants walk away with 2 of those 4 guys somehow. Call the offense: fixed
Have to get lucky somehow conjuring up a pass rush. But the offense was a much bigger overall problem.
We have so many fewer holes this draft than we did last year. I am so ready for a playoff run.
Typical Gettleman. Makes a HUGE MISTAKE In Daniels and now trying to save face takes a player they don’t need.
Ha Eagles stole there man
I love how people are calling the pick a bust whenbtgere has yet to be a down if football played in 2021
I’m sure if the Bengals took some brady 1st overall in 2000 a part time quarterback over peter warrick the whole entire world would have went bananas . Even though it would have been the right move.
Can we wait til at least halloween before we judge the picks?
Not one single person said he’ll be a bust. The problem is drafting at a position we’re already deep at vs. a more pressing need.
“we’re” deep at ? I had no idea you worked or played for the giants.
Anyway let’s disregard the term bust then. Where do the giants go at 20? If he was the BPA on their board they did the right thing . Shepard is a free agent after this season if I’m not mistaken. So I don’t see how the giants are deep at receiver . Galladay is coming off an injury , shepard is always hurt , slayton regressed this season and Jon ross…well lol
Also Toney isn’t going to line up in the slot or out wide every play. He’s going to move around the field. He’s something the giants don’t have.
Great trade
Great pick with the talent available
He’s a BUST!
If the Bengals took Brady #1 overall in 2000, even in hindsight they should have been ridiculed mercilessly. The draft is about maximizing your value. Taking a sixth round QB number 1 overall would lead to you being fired, justifiably so.
You could draft other top talents in round 1-4 and take Brady in 5.
Yes I know that’s exactly the point im eluding too but it apearantly flew over your head
You can not judge a draft before anyone has even played a down
Gettlemen made a deal that anyone would make with the Bears than drafted a WR when there are over needs.
SMH
Gettleman set this franchise back even further. Another horrible draft and he obviously didn’t have a back up plan this year. This guy can’t leave NY soon enough. Carolina was throwing parties in the streets when he was fired. No lie!
That is a lie, actually. Nobody in Carolina was pushed to ecstasy about firing Gettleman. They may have shrugged, but it was a surprise to most that Gettleman got canned. He presided over the Panthers’ rise to prominence in the early 2010s. Honestly, the only complaint I ever heard from Panthers’ fans was about how he picked a DT in the first every year-and two of them (Lotulelei and Short) ended up being pretty good.
The Giants and Rrrrrraiderrrrs should team up for worst draft picks of all time.
