Don’t expect the Steelers to move up the board between now and Thursday. In a chat with reporters, GM Kevin Colbert threw cold water on the idea that he could advance from No. 24.

“I’m very doubtful that we’ll trade up,” Colbert said (Twitter link via Missi Matthews of the team website). “We value our eight picks.”
Even after restructuring Ben Roethlisberger‘s deal this offseason, the Steelers need to give consideration to the future of the quarterback position. It’s a certainty that three of this year’s top quarterbacks will be taken at the top of the order, which will drive demand for the remaining first-round candidates. However, Colbert doesn’t seem to think that any of the potentially available passers will be worth the cost.
Meanwhile, Colbert indicated that he’s high on the depth of this year’s cornerback crop. He also gave a strong endorsement of this year’s center prospects, stating that several of them are capable of starting in the NFL.
Might as well wait til next year for a QB pick. I don’t think Tomlin can get this year’s team to the Super Bowl with all of the holes he has to fill. Fill as many holes as you can, hope Ben has another season left in his arm and if not, draft higher hopefully next draft and grab a QB to replace Ben.
Sounds good in theory, but what if that QB is another Mark Malone or Tommy Maddix? QBs like Ben don’t come along that often. It’s not like you can order a HOF QB on Amazon.
Why does everyone always seem to think you have to draft your QB first then build around him. Steelers will be in a slight transition the next few seasons so I don’t see the need to get crazy about getting a top 3 pick if the rest of the talent isn’t adequate. And even with these top QBs there is no guarantee they won’t be a mark Malone anyway
Exactly. It would take too many draft picks to trade high enough to get one of the top 3 QBs. After that it is is a crap shoot. Even if they could obtain Lawrence, what goop would it do to put him behind a patchwork OL and have him end up on the injured reserve list for the season? The holes that they need to fill will take all of the draft choices that they can over the next couple of seasons. They just have to be smart when they have the opportunity to get a QB in the next 2-3 drafts.
I like Josh Myers from Ohio State to the Steelers in round 3 or 4. I think they end up getting Davis Mills in the second. Lots of smoke screen about him possibility going in the back of the first or early second. Same thing we heard when Mason Rudolph was coming out and he fell to 3. (Hindsight he’s not good) and I think they surprise and take someone everyone suspects to go earlier. Micah Parsons from Penn St. I can c him slipping with the run on OL, WRs and CBs after the QBs. Can u imagine if that happens and teaming Parsons with Devin Bush and Watt. He can even slide out to the opposite side of Watt and pressure the QB every once in a while. But he would b the dream scenario as a Steelers Fan in the first. Him or the OLineman from USC who can play just about every position on the line.
Why use a 3rd on him when you already have Mason on the roster. No use drafting any more QBs unless they are your future. And to be honest I see Mason being the starter in 2022 for some reason
Can he hold off Haskins? He’s the future
Haskins?
Dwayne Haskins
I think you guys are being a little hard on Mark Malone. That guy turned out to be an excellent commentator!
Haskins may be the guy that Tomlin turns around. He has a way with big ten players.
Tomlin decided that coaching Antonio Brown and LeVeon Bell wasn’t challenging enough. So he went and got Dwayne Haskins.
Seriously, Tomlin is about the only coach in the NFL who has a chance at turning around Haskins. If anyone can do it, it’s Tomlin. With Rudolph and Haskins in the house, it would surprise me if the Steelers add another QB in the draft this year. There’s nowhere to put them all. If not a starter, Rudolph is a long term NFL backup.
