Three more civil lawsuits have been filed against Deshaun Watson, as Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com tweets. The Texans quarterback is now facing ten suits in total with allegations of inappropriate conduct and sexual assault.
“I’m extremely proud to represent Deshaun Watson and wholly stand behind him against what we believe are meritless allegations,” his attorney, Rusty Hardin, said recently. “However, we will wait to comment in detail until we’ve completed our review of the numerous, evolving allegations from Mr. Buzbee. We will respond next week and ask you to keep an open mind until we do so.”
Last week, three massage therapists filed against Watson with one accuser alleging that Watson forced her to perform oral sex. Through the first seven cases, Watson denied any wrongdoing. Meanwhile, the Texans say they are cooperating with the investigations.
Watson, a three-time Pro Bowler, was previously in the news for his long-standing trade request. Obviously, his off-the-field matters could put those discussions on pause.
These lawsuits are coming out cause he wants to be traded
Can you explain to me how these claims help the Houston Texans? He is only becoming more untradeable and more unmarketable by the claim.
Exactly it makes no sense but muh conspiracy hurr durr
If Houston doesn’t want to trade him, this only helps.
If these reports are true, and watson is a serial sex offender, then this most certainly does not help the Texans. He is likely to miss time to suspension, and depending on criminal charges, could miss time because he will be incarcerated
Unless the SA gets involved (and may well), there’s no jail time for a civil lawsuit, just DW potentially several very large checks.
Now if this somehow leads to criminal charges, then yes, he could do time.
If this is true about Watson, it doesn’t help the Texans image. But teams will be a lot more reluctant to trade for him (giving the Texans more of a reason to not trade him). Also, if Watson were to get suspended, would he lose the guaranteed money in his deal? I know this was a thing just a few seasons ago where players could lose any remaining guaranteed money on their deals if they were suspended (think this happened to Leonard Fournette)…not sure if this is still a thing or if there is any language in Watson’s deal that might negate thatz Could be another thing the Texans hold over Watson’s head if that’s the case.
who would possibly trade for a guy that has sexually assaulted at least 10 people dude should be locked up w cosby throw away the key
Chiefs. Seahawks.
@ghostrobot, I certainly don’t know whether he’s guilty or not (of course it doesn’t look good), but maybe we see some actual evidence or at least testimony, and have a trial first?
Scary to think you’d be ok with locking people up based solely on unsubstantiated claims filed outside of a criminal court
There’s no proof as of now.. how bout we wait and see if he did anything before you say he’s guilty? People see money from possibly sleepy attorney looking for a payout… if there’s proof I’ll change my mind.. people convict with not one shred of anything.. unreal
Just to be devils advocate, the lawyer for the other side is the owners neighbor. So POSSIBLY maybe the owner is working to blackmail desean to come back to the Texans. I saw someone argue that somewhere and thought it was crazy, but hypothetically it made sense. But he proposed crossed a line he shouldn’t have a couple times is my guess. I’m thinking he’ll probably have to settle the suits and get suspended for a while, but not serious enough to garner criminal charges. But idk. So it’ll be interesting to see what happens.
Probably* crossed a line
Mikey you must not pay attention there are going to criminal court with these cases. The conspiracy that they are after desaun to lower his value makes zero sense for texans as they would only be hurting themselves.
No criminal court date has been set. The plaintiff attorney is turning the allegations over to the police to review. The plaintiff attorney is asking for a grand jury to be set. Only a prosecutor can present the info to a grand jury not a defense attorney.
While no date is set they are filling to have it go to criminal court as-well. They sent evidence to Houston pd for review then prosecutors can choose to proceed based on evidence.
“So POSSIBLY maybe the owner is working to blackmail desean to come back to the Texans. I saw someone argue that somewhere and thought it was crazy, but hypothetically it made sense”
So the billionaire owner of the Texans committing multiple felonies like conspiracy and blackmail and fraud in order to make Deshaun Watson untradeable ‘hypothetically’ makes sense to you? Why would he do this, especially when doing it would likely lead to Watson getting suspended, and therefore unable to play for the Texans anyway?
Please think this through because, even hypothetically, this makes absolutely no sense unless Cal McNair is the dumbest person on earth.
Houston has no intention to trade him, and now they have the leverage to say that there are no teams interested in trading for him.
Houston may also not have Watson playing for them depending how the legal issues play out and what the NFL does in the way of any potential punishment.
You sound dumb, James.
Poor Guy!
Rape apologist
Deshaun Watson may be one of the players I dislike the most in today’s NFL but he deserves the benefit of the doubt on these claims. Just as the women deserve to be heard. Let’s not be too quick to judge either side.
You mean let the facts come out? Cmon now that kinda thinking isn’t allowed anymore.
Haven’t we been taught you have to believe all women no matter what the truth is?
And here I thought it was republicans that don’t require facts, but the quote is actually that “all women should be heard”, not believed
Reality is fun!
“Believe women” is an American political slogan arising out of the #MeToo movement.[1] It refers to the perceived necessity of accepting women’s allegations of harassment or assault at face value.
The phrase grew in popularity in response to the Brett Kavanaugh Supreme Court nomination. On September 28, 2018, the dating app Bumble took out a full page advertisement in The New York Times saying simply, “Believe women”.
Believe women / believe all women came from 2018. The same year protesters attempted an insurrection to prevent Kavanaugh from being confirmed to the supreme court.
Only if it isnt Cuomo or Biden.
Depends if there is an R or D next to your name
R- immediately guilty
D- wait till facts come out.
Rare w for I beg to differ
@I Beg To Differ: A counter example of this is Al Franken. He was ‘immediately guilty’ and even other Democrats wanted him gone.
But yes, there are a ton of people who are defending Cuomo who should not be. Cuomo will skate, no doubt about it.
Rct that’s because there were actual pictures of Frankin with just hand over a sleeping women’s breast.
Curious why you dislike him? I don’t know much about him outside of his skills on the field. I always assumed he was a good guy cuz his name was never in any off-field news
the twitter comments on these articles are absolutely insane bonkers
that’s Twitter for ya.
imo, Twitter is the most toxic place on the internet.
Facebook said hello…
nah Facebook is just full of grandmoms posting Minions memes
I’m so sick of people reacting to things idiots say on Twitter like it’s our whole culture or anything close to reality
Just ignore that stupid place and we can all move on as a society
Preach
Mlbtraderumors forum says hello
This is a heck of a lot more civil then any comment section about this on Bleacher Report. You can do some real doom-scrolling over there and end up hating yourself for reading all the negativity and name calling. And it not just the slightly polical leaning articles that are on there bc they are actually sports related due to the fact that athletes are talking about it. That place constantly rags on the writers, instantly calls people names or can be straight sexist/racist. Smh.
The timing of all this is suspect.
BUZZBEE is suspect too. He tried to become mayor a couple of times too.
Did not like Turner
But with all the I want out talk these allegations come out.
I might believe it if we’re at another time and not when think really looking to damage Watson and get money more than anything. Because if was not traded would sit out so how can we get a piece of the Watson pie.
These comments should be locked. There is nothing coming from this
this is a heck of a lot more civil then an article like this would be on MLBTR.
LOL! if this was on MLBTR and actually survived some commenting before comments were closed, you would have had the usual suspects all on screaming racism, bein racist, coming up with extremely wild conspiracy theories from numerous angles and all those ranting would be bashing every last person who would dare to post something contradicting what they believe. It would be anarchy, Old Testament stuff. fire and brimstone, cats and dogs sleeping together….
The MLBTR comment section is so toxic. Doesn’t matter what the article is about. It’s cringey reading them. Really sad
There would be SABR Metrics to prove he did it and others he was innocent.
One would be TTSAGAT touch the snake and get a tip. Then the opposing would be TSSOBTTWTS+. The snake snuck out because the towel was too small + I can’t be in control of it all the time.
These would all be done by nerds in mom’s basement that a live girl has never seen their worm. Well except mom when she bathed them.
I’ve read the comments, not a single one is profane or rude. Why should we get rid of free speech? I’m sure some nasty comments have been made and hopefully removed, but all those showing are perfectly fine word wise.
@arty!: Free speech has absolutely nothing to do with this. If MLBTR wants to shut down their comments sections, that’s them exercising *their* right to free speech.
Conversation and debate is not good now? Wow, tell us what you think and we will fall in line with that opinion…that seems to have always worked out in history.
My question is, how can 10+ woman keep their mouths quiet this long?
“Hold my beer”—Tiger Woods. I have no idea where Tiger thought that he could keep 25+ women quiet and by all accounts, his exploits were all consensual. To this day, I would have loved to have been a spectator to Elin took some golf clubs to Tiger’s car after that low speed accident.
“Hold my pudding” – Bill Cosby
This^
Lololol
Well played.
LOL! I thought i made a good post……Then I held your beer….. Well done @thehotcorner
Normally after the allegations hit double digits, the benefit of the doubt starts to slip away.
Usually, with good reason.
But, again I ask…are ALL of his accusers represented by the same lawyer? If so, it does open the possibility of coordination, and he should still get the benefit of the doubt.
Having said that…the fact that they are going to the police and (evidently) suing for a relatively minor amount of money looks bad for him.
well said
Heard some one on a National radio show yesterday opine that many of the subsequent victims may well have come forward and contacted Mr. Buzbee after the public announcement of the first allegation and Mr. Buzbee publicly asked for any others possible victims to contact his law firm. He put out his law firms info out on various social media platforms. Entirely possible that the subsequent accusers did just what Mr. Buzbee asked and contacted the firm and told their story and they allowed him to file their lawsuits too. as @Dark Side830 replied, well said on your post @forwhomjoshbelltolled.
and him marketing his firm can both be interpreted as a genuine gesture to help these women or a marketing ploy to get his firm more business, which is the problem.
If this is as deep as Buzbee alleges, I do wonder why he did not file a class action suit-besides the public opinion of hearing “twelve lawsuits” (Buzbee alleges 12 women, all massage therapists, so he has a couple more to file) instead of “a class action suit” and the annoyance for Watson’s defense team in having to file ten separate sets of documents. I doubt Buzbee is filing ten unique sets of discovery or what not anyway-chances are those docs look pretty similar. If he keeps finding plaintiffs, the court may just tell him to consolidate his cases anyway.
Still plenty of time for that. He only filed his first suit on March 16. 2021. Will be a week tomorrow. I believe there are 12 now and also criminal action is being pursued by Buzbee. Will not go class action or proceed through the civil action until it is decided if criminal charges are filed and if their are, till the criminal action is complete if the charges are filed.
Good ole Rusty Hardin.”I’m extremely PROUD to represent Watson”
IN other words a shiftless lawyer is always proud to “Get every gd penny he can out of someone who has it” , in typical lawyer fashion.
See how fast ole Rusty boy flees if Watson goes broke.
Rusty will be gone about as quick as Drew Rosenhaus and Darren Heitner jumped Antonio “Mr, Big Chest” Brown’s ship in early 2020. I am not comparing the reasons nor trying to infer Watson is in the same league of Browns behavior. Just comparing that Rusty will stay until it is obvious that the money train either just stops running or in the case of Brown, goes wildly careening off of the tracks.
If true, this young rising star has a big issue. I just don’t see how someone can force you to have oral sex without weapon, threats or intimidation. Sounds like bs and yes, this is only coming out (no pun intended) Bc Watson is leaving or wants to leave the Texans. I hope they have a really good investigator who can trace these allegations back to the Texan Organization. Bc it sure sounds fishy! If so – this guy may never have to play football again, if he doesn’t want to. A lot of things are bigger in Texas, even the lies!
Can’t force someone into oral? WTF?
For your sake I hope you never spend any time in the pen big boy
When the person is very much bigger and faster than you, and you are in their house, it doesn’t take much to force them. It would be just words at that point. How would she get out before he could get to her.
Being a guy I have never experienced that type of situation but I have had my daughter tell me of a similar situation and it was the scariest moment of her life. (luckily the guy thought better of it and backed off and let her leave)
Or, and hear me out, he might just be another piece of sh*t, self-entitled manchild athlete who abuses women cos he thinks he’s untouchable. I mean, this has only happened dozens of times by NFL athletes over the last few years.
By targeting masseuses who may be prostitutes or at the very least can be described and dismissed as prostitutes, he basically guarantees no one will believe what she says when it gets to the “he said, she said” phase.
This would make them the easiest available targets. And the most vulnerable.
I wonder if he got the names from Kraft. Speaking of Kraft has all the charges been dropped because his lawyer had more time and Kraft more money than tbe city? I don’t remember.
Everyone must remember that the possible offender is innocent until proven guilty, while at the same time those offended should and must be heard.
Hopefully it’s resolved soon.
Resolved soon? Is he in your fantasy team?
He’ll be stuck since he worked his way out of Houston and now no team will touch him with this legal situation pending.
If Watson was the Patriots QB Robert Kraft would find a way to make it all go away.
Kraft would’ve sent him to the right massage place
Obviously most of you have no clue what a civil lawsuit is. It’s in many cases a money grab from lawyers that know they don’t have a sufficient burden of evidence to convict in a criminal case. There are criminal liabilities or risks at all. The issue is will the NFL suspend him on the pleasantly and perfectly timed hearsay of these women. If these claims were fabricated or staged, which happens a lot these days, this may in the long-run benefit Houston if the NFL does not pursue a suspension because this stops trade pursuits from other teams. We’ll see how this pans out but I think the timing of perfect shitstorm of allegations looks like a money-grab at least and best could be either Houston management pulling strings to keep him or just a grudge from management to muddy his name.
*there are NO CRIMINAL liabilities….
In this case, Buzbee also is sending affidavits and evidence to the Houston Police and the Houston DA for possible criminal charges. He will be requesting it to be submitted to a Grand Jury for possible charges to be brought against Watson. This is not necessarily just a civil case and a potential money grab as you suggest. It may be but may much more serious for Watson.
Wow, are you really as gullible and/or delusional as you sound?
Think how crazy it sounds… a team is so desperate to keep a player that conspire with a number of individuals to file sexual abuse complaints just to sour that player’s chances of being traded. Which part of any of that makes any sense?
Watson was warned to stay in Houston, shut up and play. Nicely. Several times. Watson kept talking, carping and promising not to play. These owners are billionaires and don’t like being crossed. I could see a grudge suit being put together – it’s possible the Texans management knew about some of these issues for years before and had spoken to the women and put soft pressure on them to keep quiet. Hence the ability to quickly pull out four or five of them in a hurry.
Something smells very wrong about the timing of these lawsuits. Above, Mikey mentioned a pre-existing relationship between the Texans owner and the plaintiffs’ lawyer. I haven’t checked that out yet, but if it’s true, it would add fuel to the flames of collusion.
Wonder if this conversation would be the same if Watson was white
My god not everything is abbot race. This crap is getting so old.
The conspiracies would likely be different
So many conspiracy theorists on here. Probably the same people who believe that aliens faked the earth landing. (Eye roll).
I wonder what Watson’s girlfriend is thinking right about now.
Can’t believe that she is very happy these days.
I just had a notification just pop up that the number is up to a baker’s dozen for the number of suits filed. #13 was just added.
