The Patriots have re-signed exclusive rights free agent Jakob Johnson, per a team announcement. As an ERFA, Johnson could not negotiate with any other club, so this was mostly a foregone conclusion.
Johnson, a fullback, joined New England via the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program in April 2019. He saw action in four games during the 2019 campaign, but he played in every game in 2020, appearing in 37% of the Patriots’ offensive snaps. He caught eight passes for 35 yards and a score and also served as a significant special teams contributor.
With this re-signing and yesterday’s James White re-up, the Pats will now return most of their 2020 backfield. Damien Harris and Sony Michel are also under contract, but Rex Burkhead — who sustained an ACL tear in November — remains a free agent.
Like the move. Pats are making some solid moves for people on the 2020 team.
Let Rex go, find another option (IMO)
Anyone else think the pats will go after OBJ at the draft ? I just get this feeling there’s something big coming at the draft and I highly doubt it’s a trade up in the first round
If they could add a solid number 2 RB it would be the chocolate on a sundae if their able to get a high QB prospect in the draft that would be the cherry on top
IMO, their RB room is solid. They desperately need a WR1. They also need a QB1, but that’s not happening. I’m not as down on Cam as others, but I don’t think he can get them to a SB.
Before he got COVID/injured he wasn’t that bad I think he’ll be a lot better this season so I wouldn’t be to surprise if he does bring them to the SB highly unlikely but things happen injuries trades and bad starts
But they definitely didn’t get the right qb here still think Jimmy G will be the week one starter
