After tearing his Achilles back in September, Marlon Mack is getting healthy and is ready for his next opportunity. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports (via Twitter) that the running back is “progressing well in his rehab” from the injury and is expected to be ready in time for training camp. The running back is also expected to test free agency.
The 25-year-old isn’t far removed from two impressive seasons with the Colts. Between the 2018 and 2019 seasons, Mack compiled 2,184 yards from scrimmage and 18 touchdowns, and he added another 200 yards and one touchdown in a pair of playoff games. However, he was limited to only a single game and seven touches after tearing his Achilles in Week 1 of the 2020 campaign.
The Achilles injury was unfortunate timing for the impending free agent, who will probably have to settle for a prove-it deal during his comeback season. Either way, it doesn’t sound like he’ll immediately be re-signing with the Colts.
Even before Mack suffered his injury, there was uncertainty surrounding his future in Indy. The team drafted Jonathan Taylor in the second round of last year’s draft, and they used a pair of 2018 draft picks in Nyheim Hines and Jordan Wilkins.
I’m curious if Pittsburgh sees him as a fit… could
Make for a excellent addition in that offense that’s struggled to run.
With Pittsburgh draft one of the two guys and run either of them through rookie contract then toss and repeat. Can’t pay for running back anymore
Is the packers don’t resign Jones maybe this is a good target for them on that show me deal
If*
Mack should have plenty of teams interested in him. Dolphins Steelers Packers are all options.
I think the Dolphins would make a load of sense and he’s born and raised around that area so it would be good for Marlon
I’m scratching my head on this one. Mack had a very good 2019 season and when Taylor was drafted management’s line was two good backs is a good thing. Change of pace less wear and tear etc. Made since to me. Then Mack gets injured in the first game, Taylor comes on in the second half of the season and all of a sudden the Colts only need one primary back. I guess they can’t have nice things like Cleveland ( Chubb and Hunt). I agree Mack will probably have to sign a one year deal to prove he’s healthy, but why not with the Colts? If there’s something about his injury that makes them feel sure he won’t be the same ( and no talk like that has shown up in the media), that’s one thing. But if not, why does the two feature back logic of 2020 not apply to 2021, especially if you claim you value a robust running game?
they will have 2 feature backs. Taylor and nyheim hines
They have Hines to go with Taylor. Was a great combo last season. Why change it?
Adrian Peterson isn’t getting any younger so the Lions should be considering Mack as a possible insurance policy.
I would love this idea. I just think his contract wants might be a little bit out of the Lions range. If Kerryon Johnson was not around, I think it would be more likely.
Would be a 1200/500/10 guy with Dolphins
