Stop us if you’ve heard this one before. Currently under an indefinite suspension, wide receiver Josh Gordon says he hopes to eventually return to the NFL (Twitter link via ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter).
Gordon was released by the Seahawks earlier this month following his latest ban. That led him to the Fan Controlled Football league, where he teamed up with old pal Johnny Manziel.
Gordon, 29, was activated to the Seahawks’ roster in December. Ultimately, he wasn’t able to take the field in 2020. His last action came in 2019, when he played in eleven total games — six for the Patriots and five for the Seahawks. Despite Gordon’s off-the-field issues, Pete Carroll was taking the patient approach with Gordon, hoping that he’d develop into a high-end weapon for Russell Wilson.
Still, the football world is rooting for Gordon to get his life on track. And, still, every evaluator remembers Gordon’s unbelievable 2013 season with the Browns when he notched 1,646 receiving yards and nine touchdowns.
he’s been given way to many chances . he deserves a permanent ban
Agreed!
He absolutely does, but unfortunately, some team will probably be stupid enough to give yet another undeserved chance smh.
Just feeding an addict. Both with their prescriptions and money.
Josh or Zach?
Need to stop reporting on this guy. He made his choice. No ill will, but time to move on.
This guy is obsessed with failure. What a masochist.
I smoke a little bit of weed every day when I get home from work. Back when I was in the Army, it was against the rules so I didn’t. If I had the opportunity to make millions and not smoke weed, I wouldn’t smoke weed. It isn’t hard. The Dave Chappell skit about weed addiction sums it up better than I can.
The funny part is there are plenty of players smoking daily. His problem isn’t weed, its getting caught.
Maybe there’s more than just weed
Correct, weed is not his only misdoing. And every time he there was a new story on him seeking yet another chance his incidents were outlined.
Addictions can be deep rooted in people. What’s easy for one person maybe very difficult for someone else.
Excellent comment, cubsnomore. Addiction is not a one-size-fits-all deal. Just like a personality or the way a brain functions, addiction is different in everyone…that’s why there is no easy answer to solving it for most people. Hundreds of millions of dollars are spent by addicts every year trying to find the way to recovery, and unfortunately a lot of people are never able to find it.
I think it’s probably time for Josh Gordon to give up his NFL dreams, but here’s hoping he finds his path to a successful recovery sooner rather than later.
I don’t know if football is right for him in life. It feels like his is in an endless cycle which if you know any addicts is a lifetime struggle. Sometimes you have to remove yourself from the environment you are sick in. He should pick a new career and focus on sobriety.
And in other news, water is wet.
I hope to return to the NFL too
Get his life back on track. Check. Do that.
Quit looking for NFL work, move on.
Hey, 14th time is a charm!
Who cares?
People with a sense of compassion and empathy
Odd that he’s quoted as saying “there’s no quit in me”. I’m guessing he didn’t mean his career, he meant his habits.
Josh Gordon has made a career of having no career so there is probably a place for him as a motivational speaker alongside Tony Robbins.
