The Buccaneers have Tom Brady signed through the 2021 season. Still, head coach Bruce Arians “wouldn’t be surprised” to see the future Hall of Famer ink an extension sometime after the Super Bowl.

“I don’t have anything to do with contracts, so that would be a Jason [Licht] question,” Arians told reporters on Thursday. “I think Tom’s real happy with where he’s at, and I wouldn’t be surprised.”
Brady will turn 44 in August and he’s teased playing past the age of 45.
“Yeah, definitely. I would definitely consider that,” said B week (via NFL.com). “Again, it’s a physical sport. Just the perspective I have on that is you never know when that moment is. Just because it’s a contact sport and again it has to be 100 percent commitment from myself to keep doing it.”
“I’ve been fortunate over the years. Alex (Guerrero) and I work really hard to make sure physically I can perform at my best because you take different hits, over the course of the year you deal with different bumps and bruises, different injuries and so forth. You know, it’s just going to be me continuing to make that commitment to making it part of my year-round process to play football and continue my career.”
Even though Tom Terrific hasn’t been totally perfect with his new team, the Bucs are four quarters away from winning it all. And, win or lose, Arians also says that he’s in for at least another season.
Tom can call his shots for as long as he Iikes.
Ain’t that the truth.
Didn’t he sign a two year contract?
Understanding is a very physical sport, guys like Brady, Roethlisberger, Rodgers, Brees el al, they can easily play 2-3 more years down the road. Age is so overrated until it is not, period…
Big Ben playing into his 40s would take a miracle with all the abuse that he took early in his career.
Now if the NFL decides to give him elite status and the refs stop letting defenses touch him like Brady, Brees and Rodgers, that’s a different story. (Although with how quickly he throws the ball from the snap now may do it by itself).
Brees’ arm isn’t what it used to be. Other than that, I agree.
Man.
This guy, uh?
Pretty amazing that he continues to make the commitment to play. There is simply nothing left for him to “prove”.
He must just absolutely love to play football, man. This Super Bowl will be the first time I’ve ever rooted for a Brady led team. Judging by past results, odds are I’ve cursed him.
He looked pretty in control during the NFC championship game, man. Yeah, 3 picks but two of them were essentially punts. I think he’ll be – more or less – the same QB next season as he was this.
Unbelievable.
I have no problem picturing him playing at a fairly high level for a couple more seasons.
Again: unbelievable.
Brady’s play has declined even if his chemically enhanced physical condition has not. He’ll soon be in the same boat as Roethlisberger and Brees, i.e., he’ll not have the arm strength left to make the throws he used to make.
Well, the way the rules are today, he could do it. Big Ben’s offense this past season showed how far you can still get with literally just a quarterback throwing it hyper-quickly by itself. Offense is not hard to come by, and Brady is definitely “old enough to get the call,” as opposed to his replacement in New England.
Brees declined last year, but Brady has taken much less abuse, and at a MUCH larger frame. Not that Brady is enormous, mind you, but he is still 6’4” and about 220 or so. Brees was famously “around” 6’0” and about 200. Rodgers is 6’2” and about 220 supposedly, but has had many more hits and body injuries. Ben, as well know, has had a worse history than the others in terms of hits and injuries, despite his size. I don’t know if Rodgers will last as long as Brady, but the way the rules are now, I am not surprised at all that Brady and the others want to keep it going. In fact, I pretty well expect it.
