After 17 seasons, Jason Peters isn’t ready to call it quits. The veteran lineman plans to play in 2021, even though a return to the Eagles is unlikely.
“I’m gonna play one more year, try to get me another ring,” Peters said (Twitter link via Jeff Skversky of ABC). “Probably won’t be in Philly, [which is] unfortunate.”
The Eagles re-signed Peters in the summer to replace Brandon Brooks at right guard. Then, left tackle Andre Dillard was lost to a biceps injury, forcing the Birds to move Peters back to his long-time LT post. They also gave him a pay bump to facilitate the double-switch.
Unfortunately, Peters went down with a toe injury in October. He returned for a bit, though he had to be kicked back to the inside to compensate for his limited mobility.
Peters, who will turn 39 this week, is no longer an elite protector. Still, he’s racked up two First Team All-Pro selections, nine Pro Bowls, and a Super Bowl ring over the course of his career. Given his reputation and resume, Peters shouldn’t have much trouble finding work in the offseason.
not in Philly thank you very much
The Bucs will cut Donovan Smith (thank God) in the offseason freeing up $16M. Could see a one year deal there if the price is right. Not sure it will be though. I’d prefer to shift Wirfs over there and try him at LT.
You’re thanking God for cutting Donovan Smith and celebrating bringing in a 39 year old Jason Peters as a replacement?
i was about to say the same thing… this guy is crazy
He just not any good anymore. It was a great run in philly.
With what he’ll want in contract $ everyone will pass. If he’s doing it for “a ring” he’ll sign for veteran minimum
Everybody passed last offseason and knew he was done. Then Philly came calling at the last minute. When injuries hit he leveraged it into a raise. I’d be surprised to see him signed unless it’s late and only after injuries hit.
If he’s coming back for a ring, then he will 100% not stay in Philly.
Unless he was referring to an onion ring.
Yes. Yea he should have trouble finding a job. He’s done. Should have taken his ring and limped away.
please Holly roseman do not do it please do not bring him back I’m begging you don’t do it. Jason Peters thank you for everything you did for the Eagles you were one of the best offensive lineman for the Eagles in their history but it’s time to say goodbye thank you for everything and best of luck to you the rest of your career
not in Philly!!
Wow what a joke,I think he’s greedy, he can’t play anymore, looking for a payday.I hope the Eagles aren’t stupid again.Sorry for any team stupid enough to sign him.
It’s getting bad and embarrassing at this point. The guy has nothing left in the tank. The past year or so he has gone from a beloved Philly athlete to someone fans are rejoicing is gone. He has made a lot of money, has a ring, and lots of accolades and will be in the HoF. Don’t tarnish your legacy.
