The Giants have inked signed center Jonotthan Harrison to a one-year futures deal worth $2MM, as Ian Rapoport of NFL.com tweets. Typically, reserve/futures contracts are for the bare minimum, but the Giants were willing to go above and beyond for the talented lineman.

Harrison began his career with the Colts and seemed on track for a promising career as a first-stringer. He started in 19 games for Indy between 2014 and 2015, but seemed to regress as time went on. By 2016, he was a backup who graded out as one of the league’s worst interior linemen, according to Pro Football Focus.
In 2017, then-Jets GM Mike Maccagnan inked him to a one year deal. Harrison went on to start in 19 of 40 games over the next three seasons. Then, just before the start of the 2020 season, Joe Douglas jettisoned him from the roster. After spending 2020 with Buffalo’s practice squad, Harrison will return to the Meadowlands and look to prove himself all over again.
Futures contracts are typically for players on the fringe with less-than-stellar odds of making the final cut. However, the Giants may view Harrison as more of an early free agent pickup. He’ll be joined by fellow NFL notable Breeland Speaks — the 2018 second-round choice inked his own reserve/futures deal earlier this month.
Why are we closing comments for the Stafford/Goff trade?
How is that controversial
It’s because the initial article was loaded with errors and people pointed that out (some pretty rudely).
and some of us not so rudely
I’m not sure why you needed to say this. If ‘some’ of the comments were rude, then it goes without saying that the rest were not.
The comments were clearly closed because of the rude comments, so no need to feel offended if you were nice about it.
Seems like a pretty iffy strategy to lock out the most talked about thing in the sport today(and it’s not controversial) across all threads rather than just moderating the overly rude comments in a single thread, but what do I know I guess.
Hard to hate any o-line depth signings like this, little interesting they kicked in more than usual for this sort of deal though.
Huh!? I guess I will post comment to Zach’s latest article on 6 teams being in the mix for Stafford on this thread.
I assume SF, Indy, Pats were in the mix. This will be a heck of an off-season across the league for QBs. Well over half the teams have uncertainty.
What is the next domino to fall?
My guess, Watson to Miami for Tua and 3 first rounders
@Thomar good prediction. Just hard to wrap my head around 3 firsts AND Tua. But I think you are right or close. Miami definitely best partner for Texans if they don’t believe in Tua.
I don’t mean to be rude this is just constructive criticism. Everyone makes mistakes. Owning up to them over locking every comment section is probably a better way to deal with things.
Agreed!
Seems a little much for a reserve/futures contract. Not good for a team with limited cap space.
by contrast, it may be a way of circumventing the cap and waiting for room to open up via cuts and trades. sign a guy to a deal without a guaranteed spot with the intent of giving him a spot down the line.
Fair point, I could see that.
Dark side, are you from south Jersey? I only ask because you’re a Yankee and Eagle fan right?
im not a Yankees fan
Oh ok, I thought I read a comment by you that you were.
Smart on Stafford/Rams sticking to the current contract. Gives Rams some cap space to sign a player or two. Plus the Rams can’t afford to give an extension prematurely (again).
