One of the top draft-eligible running backs will officially submit his name in the 2021 prospect pool. Oklahoma State’s Chuba Hubbard is declaring for the draft, according to Cowboys coach Mike Gundy.
Hubbard missed Oklahoma State’s past two games due to an ankle injury and is not returning for their regular-season finale Saturday, opting to wrap his college career early and prepare for the draft.
A 2,000-yard rusher in 2019, Hubbard is expected to fall in near the top of next year’s running back class. Scouts Inc. slots the junior back third among draft-eligible runners — behind Clemson’s Travis Etienne and Alabama’s Najee Harris — despite a down third season in Stillwater, Okla.
After finishing eighth in the 2019 Heisman Trophy voting, Hubbard rushed for just 625 yards and saw his yards-per-carry figure drop from 6.4 to 4.7. That said, the 6-foot ball carrier still compiled four straight 100-plus-yard outings during this COVID-19-altered college football season. He figures to be a Day 2 prospect for running back-needy teams come April.
After a 2000 yard season, what else did he have to prove? He should gone pro last year or, at least, opted out this season. All he could have done was hurt himself (which he did) & his draft stock.
Can’t go pro after Sophomore year
I didn’t realize he was a sophomore last year. He should have opted-out then. My point was why take any chance in damaging your stats and/or your body?
You can when you are a redshirt sophomore which he was
I think it remains to be seen if he actually hurt or helped his draft stock, specifically. You would be hard-pressed to say he would have gone above Edwards-Helaire, Swift, Taylor, or Dobbins last year. That means the best he probably could have gone is to GB at the end of the 2nd round. This year, he should be the 3rd back off the board, which normally happens mid-2nd round. I will agree with you that he should have gone pro, but that’s because of the wear and tear a RB gets, especially on a team without many other offensive weapons. I also think he made his decision to come back too early before Harris and Etienne announced they would return. If those 2 had declared, then Hubbard would have been deep on the RB depth and coming back would have made more sense.
I know they don’t need a RB but a backfield of Chuba and Chubb would be hilarious.
They don’t need to be teammates for Hubbard to marry Chubb and take his last name. Chuba Chubb.
In the time leading up to the draft, Hubbard will be focused on conditioning, toning and weight control. He feels that at this point in time that he is too…….
CHUBA
Someone is going to come at my throat for this but……….
If he’s there day two and it’s Seattle’s pick they need to take him. Penny gets hurt way too much and didn’t deserve being drafted in round one, Carson has been getting more and more hurt as the years progress and has proved why he got drafted in the 7th round but has done well while healthy, however this is his contract year. In think we only signed hyde to a one year deal I feel if we can get him back for around the same price I’d be okay with that cause he’s done well with his shots. Homer isn’t a homer he’s more of a filler and deejay Dallas is okay he’s just not fast. He can run people over and catch but he’s not ready for a lead role
