Doug Pederson is not on the hot seat, according to Doug Pederson. The Eagles head coach says he is “fully confident” that he will return in 2021, despite the team’s disappointing season.

“I feel fully confident to be the head coach of the Eagles in 2021,” said Pederson, who will miss the playoffs for the first time since his inaugural 2016 season in Philly. “The thing I’m most proud of this football team, we have been in the postseason three of the last five years since I’ve been here and that’s pretty good.”
“We have won a championship here. We have gone through a season where a lot of our veteran guys are not playing due to injury. We are playing with a lot of young players. There is always going to be evaluation in the offseason and my job is evaluated as well. I fully expected to be the coach next season and I welcome the opportunity to get things right, get things fixed and take this team into next season.”
Depending on how the season finale goes, the Eagles will finish either 5-10-1 or 4-11-1. Either way, it’ll the worst report card in Pederson’s five years. In that span, the Eagles have invested serious resources in quarterback Carson Wentz, only to watch him regress dramatically in 2020. Now, owner Jeffrey Lurie will be left to decide whether Pederson — a Philadelphia hero, not long ago — is the right man to lead the Eagles moving forward.
Roseman & Lurie’s confidence in Pederson is all that matters. Keep patting yourself on the back though, Doug.
I wouldn’t even say that Roseman would be part of the decision on Dougie. Roseman must be on the hot seat too after seeing what has happened after the SB win.
Doug sure makes a lot of excuses.
Let’s not forget that prior to winning the Super Bowl, Doug was already on the hot seat.
Since the Super Bowl, the team “lucked” into the playoffs 2 straight seasons.
When luck ran out, the team is where it’s at today.
Yes the drafts haven’t been great, however, take a look at what former Eagles are doing across the NFL.
The “franchise QB” took a gigantic step back this season.
But Doug readily explains it away. Perhaps he should write another coaching book.
In all fairness his pre Super Bowl hot seat wasn’t nearly as hot as Coach Coughlin’s was in NY both times the Gints won the SB.
That said, Doug probably doesn’t care at this point if he’s fired, the decision is out of his hands. He’d probably be relieved as he’d escape the misery, plus he’d pull a full paycheck to NOT go into work.
I don’t think he would be unemployed too long. The Andy Reid coaching tree is still popular and the Bears might see Pederson as a viable replacement for Nagy.
You’re right. These guys are hired to be fired and then recycled. Having a SB ring gives him more appeal than others. He won’t be out of work long.
If Matt Nagy’s team makes it to the playoffs, does he keep his job?
Pederson not be the #1 reason the Eagles have gotten worse four straight years and are a mess now, but he certainly owns his share of the blame.Howie signed too many old players to ridiculous contracts and has drafted horribly ( and has handcuffed the team moving forward) and should be canned. Wentz has regressed greatly and Doug’s poor play calling has been part of that. Lurie has been too sentimental with keeping players and coaches too long. That’s why they are a horrendous 4-10-1. Time to clean house !
