DeSean Jackson is back. NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero reports (via Twitter) that the Eagles are activating the wideout from IR. The veteran is expected to play against the Cowboys tomorrow.
After being limited to only three games in 2019, Jackson has once again been hampered by injuries in 2020. After appearing in Philly’s first three games, he was sidelined for three weeks by a hamstring injury. He suffered an ankle sprain during his Week 7 return, landing him on injured reserve.
It’s been four years since Jackson’s had a 1,000-yard season, but he was productive during his two-year stint with the Buccaneers, finishing with 1,442 receiving yards. The 34-year-old has been limited to only seven total games since returning to the Eagles via trade in 2019. During his second stint with the Eagles, Jackson has hauled in 22 receptions for 314 yards and two scores.
The Eagles wide receiver corps have struggled to stay on the field this season, with the team starting six different wideouts (Jackson, Greg Ward, Jalen Reagor, Travis Fulgham, John Hightower, and Alshon Jeffery). For one of the few times this season, the Eagles should have a fully stocked depth chart for quarterback Jalen Hurts in his third career start.
Waste of a roster spot, now taking up reps the young WRs should be getting. DJax is done in Philly as is Alshon, you need to give the young guys more PT.
FYI… they play tomorrow not today. lol
Who said anything about today?
What has any one of their young WRs done to deserve reps?
We don’t know because they don’t get the chance. There was no preseason or other normal opportunities so the only way to find out if they can play at this level is to play them at this level.
Same reason why Mailata needed to play, gotta see what he has in live action. Of course, somebody around here has advocating for these people veterans such as Jason Peters, Jackson and Alshon Jeffries to play and all 3 have been failures this season. All three are done in Philly after this next game and the younger players behind them still need to get better opportunities to see if they can be replied upon going into next season and beyond.
What do you mean they don’t get the chance? Looking at snap counts for their respective receivers, they’re getting plenty of chances to play. The reality is they can’t play. There’s a reason Travis Fulgham’s snap counts have been decreasing. Arcega- Whiteside and Hightower don’t even play!!!
They can’t get open nor can they create any separation. So maybe it’s more of the fact they have to play the more experienced and aging guys like Jeffrey
Jordan Mailata wasn’t even a football player before he got to the Eagles
Snap counts-
66 Ward
43 Reagor
26 Alshon
22 Fulgham
20 DJax
12 Watkins
Jeffery showed up 1 play and was invisible the other 25.
DJax also had one great play and got hurt doing that moronic flip into the end zone, a ghost the other 20. But keep trotting the players out there that are 100% not a part of the future. Point was, Mailata showed well and was then shelved until they had no choice and then played well again. Only way you find out at this point is live game action. In a 4 win season there is absolutely nothing else to play for.
“Keeping trotting out players that are not part of the future”
Sounds like most of the team
At first, I was going to complain about him taking snaps away from Travis Fulgham and the other young receivers. But then I thought, what the heck? He’ll only be healthy until halftime at the longest.
I am glad Jackson is here to retire as an Eagle, but his availability and production has not been worth a roster spot. I feel the same about JP. Both are great Eagles of old. Both need to retire.
Fulgham stinks. Their young receivers can’t play.
More sickening by the week watching Justin Jefferson torch secondaries.
Ironic that you don’t want to see the player you actually have play to see what they have to offer yet continue to harp on the players you do not have. Keep crying about Jefferson and Metcalf, cheering on Alshon and DJax while Fulgham, Hightower and Reaghor sit on the sidelines and go into the offseason with question marks.
I have no problem watching Fulgham get out there and play. My point is when he in fact does play, what has he done? He is number 2 on the depth chart in snap counts this season behind greg ward so please stop with the argument that he doesn’t get the chance to play
You complain about Jeffrey and Jackson taking away from the younger players when they’ve been hurt! Ward, Fulgham, Reagor and Hightower are your top 4 in snap counts.
If you want to sit there and type that I’m “crying about Jefferson and Metcalf” that’s fine. Stop blaming Jeffrey and Jackson for the the team’s failure at the receiver position
So they’ve played more than the 2 veterans that cashed checks and sat out most of the season? Those guys, specifically Fulgham, played well in their absence, the coaches should’ve found a way to continue that.
The only thing I “harp on” is this organizations continued FAILURE at evaluating talent. The reason this team is in salary cap hell and the reason this team doesn’t have one single player you can call a “franchise cornerstone”
That was Wentz but how’s that worked out recently?
This team has been a pool of mediocrity since the Super Bowl.
And all you want to do is blame Jeffrey, Jackson and Peters? Get real
I blame the front office for signing those 3 broken down veterans to deals that were bad when they signed them. I blame the front office for neglecting the many obvious holes and instead using a 2nd round pick to draft another QB that has only added to the circus. That said, you have continually wanted to see these same guys play at the expense of the youngsters already on board when you need to see if they can help out moving forward.
I’ve seen enough. Haha
I had no problem signing those guys at the time. You need veteran leadership on the team. Turns out they might’ve not been the best at that either.
They need to tear the whole thing down and rebuild.
They can’t trade Wentz and eat that cap hit. If that’s the case, Pederson has to be gone. No way of mending that fence. And you can’t pay the guy starter’s money to sit on the bench.
It shall be interesting
But, if we can agree on something, I think we can both whole heartedly agree that we hope they tank against Washington to knock the Cowboys out!
Enjoy your day and have a safe, happy and healthy new year
DJax and Alshon are veterans but not the veterans leadership types at all. Not the guys for that role. Peters is a veteran and provided some leaders but then when the season started trending the wrong way he was AWOL from that role. Player meetings were called by actual leaders and JP was nowhere to be found.
Yeah, we certainly can agree there is much to be done here and we are pulling for the same results. Cheers!
I remember locking horns with you on this site when they gave JP that money to play left tackle. I defended it.
Not ashamed to admit I was wrong. He’s done.
Howie for whatever reason backed himself into a corner with the Alshon extension he couldn’t get out of, but pretty much the rest of the league knew the limitations of DJax and JP but nostalgia brought them back. We fans can get emotionally attached to players, but the front offices should never let sentimentality dictate their moves and they have with these guys.
DeSean Jackson used all his time off the field studying up on Mein Kampf…probably.
The Eagles quit today. Yes I know they were decimated by injuries and have no depth (largely due to signing too many older players to ridiculous contracts and terrible drafting for many years). It’s time to at least fire GM and Defensive Coordinator and probably most of the staff.
