Even by Jets standards, it would be shocking to see Adam Gase in green next year. But, for what it’s worth, the embattled head coach says that he has not been clued in on his fate (Twitter link via Ralph Vacchiano of SNY).

“That was news to me,” Gase said in response to a local radio report indicating that he’s already been canned. “No one has said that to me…You’re going to hate this answer, but it’s the best one I can give you: I learned when I was 22 years old, Nick Saban told me you do your job until somebody tells you different. That’s what I’m going to focus on.”
Gase’s Jets have managed two late-season wins to avoid a winless season and play their way out of the No. 1 overall pick. They’ll place no higher than No. 2 on the 2021 draft board, which means that Trevor Lawrence won’t be coming to the Meadowlands. Even if the Jets pull off a Week 17 upset over the Patriots, it’s hard to fathom Gase staying put. Still, he’s keeping his eye on the Pats, and not on his personal shortcomings.
“I don’t know if worry is really the right word,” Gase said when asked about his reputation as an offensive guru. “It pisses me off because if there’s one side of the ball I want to make sure is right, that one has not happened. And that’s on me.”
Yet…..key word
Why fire him? Unless they’re picking a QB to pair with a new GM and new head coach what’s the point? If they were gonna pick number 1 and take Lawrence then yea fire him but they’re gonna hire someone else and tell them to go win with Sam Darnold. So after 2 losing seasons they’ll fire that guy too.
He’s proven he doesn’t connect well with players and hasn’t developed Darnold well (I know he was injured). Its time for him to go.
It’s been a poorly run organization, so it isn’t always the QB’s fault. But Darnold has made -0- progress, and is arguably worse now than when he started. And his production this year is similar to Haskins.
At some point, it has to be blamed on the GM, for a bad pick, and the coach, for poor development.
I don’t know if I can blame Darnold. I’m honestly astounded watching him and seeing just how many catchable balls he throws that frankly don’t end in completions. I cannot say the same for Haskins. If there is one thing that can be said for certain about Darnold versus Haskins it is that he is a better leader in that his teammates seem to try and play for him. I am certain that his time in New York has permanently hindered his development, but my bet is that he will end up much better on his second team than Dwayne Haskins will.
I’m willing to blame Darnold. You can’t watch tapes and see where you need to improve? You can’t get a personal assistant? You can’t make the adjustments yourself?
Darnold has no offensive line, possibly the worst receiving corps in football, 80 year old Frank Gore as his running game, and one of the most clueless men in the game (Gase) calling his plays. I’m inclined to give Darnold a bit of a pass. They’re a dysfunctional organization who hasn’t developed a good QB since Pennington.
Yerp, make as well see what he can do. They dont give nobody a chance. Sign good players. Im a ravens fan, bell was fan and a former shadow of em old self and Cj wanted too much $$$. Lol could’ve drafted one for that price buddy haha. Get some wrs,and a te for Sammie. And few good d fence players. Look what Miami is doing. Sometimes you don’t gotta go all inn in one off season.
the jets should just let The Liquor do the coaching and set the season on booze control
“Nick Saban told me you do your job until somebody tells you different”.
Of course Lou Saban would have probably just said “Your killing us Adam…your killing us!”
“I learned when I was 22 years old, Nick Saban told me you do your job until somebody tells you different. That’s what I’m going to focus on.” – Adam Gase
Excellent quote.
I’m sure Nick intended to add the word “well” after job. Gase apparently didn’t consider that.
“I keep trying but they havent fired me yet”
The Jets winning a game they needed to lose while the Browns lost a game they needed to win is just so in keeping with each team’s history.
I’d like to see Jets win their last one just to depress Belichick even further, but it’s hard to tell with him. He has the same demeanor win or lose.
