Mychal Kendricks will sign back with the Seahawks’ practice squad today, according to Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times (on Twitter). Kendricks was released from the reserve group just yesterday with the intention of signing elsewhere. That deal fell through, Condotta hears, leading him right back to Seattle.

Kendricks spent 2018 and 2019 with the Seahawks and played extensively alongside Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright, with the team using its base defense frequently. Kendricks recovered from an injury that ended his ’18 season and started in 14 games last season, only to suffer an ACL tear in the regular season finale. After that, Kendricks embarked on a lengthy recovery and an extended stretch of free agency. The Seahawks then stashed him on the practice squad in mid-October.
The former six-year Eagles starter offers 91 pro starts and 19 sacks, despite being a career off-ball linebacker. Technically speaking, this will mark Kendricks’ fourth signed contract with the Seahawks.
Although he knows the system which makes for a decent emergency LB to call-up in case of injuries the success of 1st rd pick Jordyn Brooks will unfortunately (for MK) spell a lengthy stay on the practice squad.
Brooks is showing us why JS/PC picked him in the 1st rd. He’s already proving to be a better LB than 2019 3rd rd pick Cody Barton. I watched the All-22 coaches film last night: Brooks was flying around that field and made a lot of stops on the SF running game.
I counted just 2 mistakes- one on a running play where the QB deceived him with a fake passing play to the R when it was actually a run play to the L. Another on a missed solo tackle on a run play that picked up a 1st down. That’s it though! He diagnosed plays quickly and shut down the run often- impressive considering how few rookie LB’s make a big impact at that position in their first year.
Jordyn Brooks’s speed of thought on scheme awareness and quickness from side to side makes him a vital player for the upcoming matchups vs the Rams. McVay has had our number recently using short passes underneath and a plethora of jet sweeps beating us to the edge. I believe JB was drafted specifically to counter those sweeps and, as he showed in AZ he can shut down K Drake and keep Kyler Murray (somewhat) contained.
