The Jets have a whole host of problems, but head coach Adam Gase isn’t among them, according to GM Joe Douglas. Gase, he says, is “part of the solution,” (Twitter link via Brian Costello of the New York Post).

Most Jets fans wouldn’t agree. The Jets are 0-8, mired in yet another lost season. Sunday’s game against the Chiefs was predictably brutal — the Jets lost by 26 points and did not manage a single touchdown. Making matters worse, starting quarterback Sam Darnold suffered a shoulder injury though, thankfully, his MRI did not reveal serious damage.
Things aren’t going to get much easier for Gase and Gang Green moving forward. Around the league, there’s little confidence that the Jets will keep Gase as their head coach, and increasing chatter about a potential plan to tank for Trevor Lawrence. At this rate, they’re looking at pretty great odds of landing the Clemson star, universally regarded as the top talent in the 2021 class. The Jets, of course, deny any tanking plans, but they look a sizable step towards the No. 1 pick this week by trading veteran linebacker Avery Williamson to the Steelers.
Hahahahahahahahahaha!
Says Joe Douglas the guy who got the general manager position based on the recommendation of the head coach. This team will go nowhere as long as he is the head coach, they are such a joke there is talk about Trevor Lawrence either staying at Clemson for his senior year or if the Jets end up with the first overall selection doing what Eli Manning did to the chargers.
When your team is 0-8 your gm absolutely cannot say the head coach is “part of the solution” at least the jets roster is awful so fans can’t expect anything, Matt “Adam gase” Nagy is throwing away the best bears roster in years, could be worse jets fans
Gase is part of the solution if the problem is upgrading the QB position. That is unless Lawrence does the Elway/Manning trick. Which I would if I had to go to that mess. They would be smart to trade the pick for a mint and upgrade a position or ten. Darnold is a good placeholder while they upgrade the team.
Gase is only part of the solution if the solution is securing the top pick and then firing Gase … As a Bills fan I hope Douglas was serious .. Personally id love to see Adam Gase coach the Jets for the next decade
WTH?
If Douglas can’t see Gase is the problem and never should have been hired, then he needs to be fired too.
Gase and Douglas can pat each other on the back and call each other “brilliant “ as Trevor Lawrence re-ups for another year at Clemson.
To getting Lawrence, yea. To winning football games? Heck no.
If he finishes 0-16,then he’s part of the solution.
Good point, brother.
Douglas is actually being very smart here. He’s saying one thing, but feels completely just the opposite. He needs to keep Gase so as to insure they don’t win a game. Thus, the Jets get the best QB to help this franchise right the ship. If Lawrence decides to go back to school to avoid being drafted by the Jets, you keep Gase for another year to insure they get Lawrence. Very smart on his part!!!
I like it
So Bengals fan chiming in here … did Mike Brown buy the Jets ? That’s how Marvin Lewis stayed here ffffoooorrrreeeeevvvveeerrr! I do agree that the personnel / talent on this team is limited.
I don’t care what coach you put here it’s a mess.
No Way does Lawrence go tot he Jets. He isn’t stupid. He will force his way out.
You guys really think Lawrence will stay another year to avoid the Jets??? Your Wrong! PlAying football for the NFL is like hitting the lotto ticket who gives a crap what team you play for it’s all about the money. Why risk throwing that away and getting hurt playing a poor man’s game in college and in your career. Now he will play for the Jets watch and see.
It’s not unprecedented. Also, #1 QBs have forced draft day trades if a team picks them that they don’t want to play for. See Eli Manning and John Elway.
If he got hurt he’d still be a high pick and still get a nice payday. Tua did plenty well carrying injury concerns into the draft. Avoiding the Jets is the smart play. They’d absolutely ruin him. That franchise is completely inept.
I definitely agree that Gace is part of the solution. The solution starts by firing Gase.
lol this dude could murder someone and still keep his job. I feel for Jets fans
Just GM-speak by Douglas.
Obviously this sounds bad when you look at the performance so far, but just because the team is awful doesn’t mean the coach is awful. Sure maybe Gase blows but and there is so much smoke here that he probably is part of the problem, but it seems like nearly everyone believes it’s on him but none of us actually have any idea how good it bad of a coach Gase really is
Most people have already covered the other side of what I’m about to say (and I agree with them), but I’ll point out another element here. Douglas obviously knows that Gase is a problem. However, saying so publically is not a luxury that he has.
Gase has not been fired yet. Douglas cannot come out and badmouth him at this point if ownership stills supports Gase (or if ownership has decided, in agreement withDouglas or not, to keep Gase until the season’s end). Maybe Douglas disagrees and has no power as the junior member of an organization where Gase holds enormous influence, or maybe he is biding his time and doing what he can until ownership decides that Gase is a lost cause. Maybe Douglas himself is waiting until the end of year to fire Gase.
In any of these cases, he for right now needs to project faith in his head coach-either to maintain professionalism with his current players/staff or for a future hire. Gase is still the coach right now no matter at whose pleasure he serves, so the GM has to support him. I can say one thing, though-if Gase is fired, it’s not done without ownership deciding to do it, or, in the case Douglas really is trusted enough to hold that power, at least having their approval. Gase is powerful in that organization, despite his record, and has been for a while. That’s due to ownership trusting him. I’m not sure how much leeway Douglas has in comparison in that abnormal structure.
Gase is part of the solution if the problem is addition by subtraction.
The GM obviously not a good judge of talent. Fire him. Gase is awful. Fire him too. Draft Trevor. Trade Darnold to JAX.
This is all Peyton Manning’s fault. He talked Johnson into hiring Gase. Now he is texting and talking to Lawrence into going back to school to avoid playing for the Jets. Any Jet fan with Nationwide (Peytonville) should drop them as long as Peyton Manning is their spokesperson. Peyton Manning needs psychiatric help .He is so full of hate because the Jets ruined the Colts perfect season a while ago .Let it go Peyton . The Jets were not the only team to beat you
Uhhhh, what?
