The Jets are doing a tremendous job of losing their way to the No. 1 overall pick, where they could select Clemson star Trevor Lawrence. And, they’re not even trying to tank, according to head coach Adam Gase.

“That’s something that — nobody’s talked about that,” Gase said (via Brian Costello of the New York Post). “We can’t worry about what anybody else thinks. We know we’re trying to get guys better that are here and we’re trying to figure out ways to win games.”
So far, the Jets are 0-9, and they’re without four of the key vets they started with. Running back Le’Veon Bell, defensive lineman Steve McLendon, linebacker Avery Williamson, and cornerback Pierre Desir have all been dropped, leaving Gase with an inexperienced group that can’t seem to stay competitive.
“Some of these guys that are really young, they’re fun to coach because these guys, they’re all ears, they’re trying to do everything possible to put themselves and the team in the best position possible,” Gase said. “Last year was a good example of having success with some of these guys that a lot of people didn’t think were very good, and we were able to win some games because of it. We’ve just got to keep getting these guys better and find a way to win it at the end of game. When we get to the fourth quarter and it’s a close game, let’s go win one of these things.”
The Jets, coming off of their bye, will try to win one of these things against the Chargers this weekend. Not only will they be without Desir, they’ll also be without fellow starting cornerback Brian Poole, who was placed on injured reserve this week.
The tanking talk is happening dude, just not with you.
“Should we fire Gase?”
“Not yet, we’re tanking.”
Adam Gase has no clue..
The rest of the front office is moving forward.
Lol so Gase is just that bad of a coach without tanking?
So I’m starting to think his high scoring offense in Denver had more to do with Manning and the weapons around him then it had to do with Gase play calling. Maybe he should call Peyton and thank him for making all that money in Miami and New York.
Just another coach who got a job due to coaching someone great like Manning. He turns it into 6 years as a head coach and had absolutely nothing to do with it. Love how every year coaches get gigs over someone they had ZERO to do with. They were talking about Greg Roman on TV last week. Really with Lamar Jackson as the QB. LIKE Lamar wouldn’t be successful without him. I threw up in my mouth when ai heard that.
This is not a good example you’ve picked. They gave Roman the OC position specifically to tailor make an offense for Jackson’s strengths.
You’re exactly right. Let’s not forget Roman directed competitive offenses with Tyrod and Kap: two quarterbacks relying heavily on their scrambling abilities
“That’s something that — nobody’s talked about that,” That’s the dumbest quote I have heard this year.
“I won the election”
Oh yeah, I forgot.
Spot on!
The players aren’t trying to lose but the organizational philosophy is definitely to tank this season.
Exactly.
I’ve never heard him tank anyone.
Yeah can’t fire Gase yet, might start winning.
The Tank was in play before the ink dried on his contract.
His entire reputation is built on Manning; as if Gase had anything whatsoever to do with Peyton’s career.
He was just … there
The whole “tanking” storyline is such a stupid media-created drama.
No coach tanks, since their job security is tied to winning games. This team has little talent, very poor coaching and their drafting has been awful. Ownership certainly hopes they lose games, but they won’t tell a coach to do it.
Coaches have guaranteed contracts. Gase will be paid in full. Whether or not they fire him.
There is good reason to believe the Jets couldn’t even “tank” successfully. The Chargers offer the Jets the best remaining chance to shoot themselves in the foot and lose out on the first overall draft pick next season.
Excuse me, but did you forget about the Jags? How about Detroit or Cinny? Plenty of good candidates to lose out!
Lions have already won too many games to land the first overall pick. The Bengals have improved significantly over last year although their being in the toughest division conceals that. Jags are the most likely recipient of any Jets fumble but they will just use the top pick for a Florida player like they usually do.
If they are not trying to tank as Adam says they are not then that just really shows what a horrible head coach he is. If they do not fire this man at the end of the season then it will be another season of the relevance for this organization. What a difference 10 games Nick beginning of the season everybody thought the New York Jets were going in the right direction and the New York Giants were hopeless. Fast forward 10 games later giants yes have only three wins but are competitive every single week and the whole team believes in their head coach not so much in the other end of the building.
Gase was great in 2016 and then he fell off a cliff.
Sad thing is I believe them. I believe they’re trying to win. They’re just this bad…
The Jets are so bad if they tried to intentionally tank, they’d fail.
The Jets are terrible. Ownership needs to clean house or sell the team. Gase should be alright. Made a lot of money for helping ruin a franchise. Keep him around to finish his handy work.
He did make resting b face cutler useable in chi city. Still mans gotta go…terrible. Honestly hard to watch and hear about…dude stinks, for real
No need to talk about tanking thanks to the lack of talent on the Jets. #3 receivers being used as #1s!? Ridiculous.
If this isn’t tanking then I’d hate to see what tanking looks like
Gase may not be tanking, but his methods will certainly be studied as the course material for Tanking 101.
