49ers wide receiver Kendrick Bourne is now eligible to return. After his COVID-19 positive on Wednesday, Bourne has received two consecutive COVID-19 negatives (Twitter link via NFL.com’s Mike Garafolo). In addition, fellow wide receivers Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel have also been the greenlight, along with left tackle Trent Williams.
Bourne was one of several 49ers players held out of Thursday night’s game due to protocols. Playing shorthanded, the Niners lost 34-17. Bourne’s latest results seem to point to a false positive on the first test, and his camp is predictably miffed.
“It’s frustrating because Kendrick has been really responsible with everything,” agent Henry Organ said. “He’s taken COVID-19 very seriously. It’s not a joke to him.”
Through eight games this year, Bourne has caught 25 passes for 352 yards and one touchdown. His last outing was his best yet — Bourne registered eight grabs for 81 yards against the Seahawks, making the most out of his ten targets.
With their roster largely restocked, Bourne and the 49ers will turn their attention to the Saints, following their bye week.
So he missed a game because of a false positive
Yikes
Lots of players have. It sucks when it’s a false positive.
Aiyuk, bourne and Trent Williams all did. They should have moved the game to Sunday or Monday but cant miss out on all that TV money. Easy decision for NFL and niners pay the price. I think the niners and their fans would be more upset if we thought we had a shot again this year of going deep. Its a lost season anyways
Better than a true positive.
The sheer number of false positives related to Covid-19 is just mind-blowing to me. Is this a normal thing for testing with communicable diseases? What’s the deal, man! How are we supposed to find a vaccine when we can’t even accurately tell is someone is infected or not? So how many of these reported cases across the US have been legitimate? Anyone got any ideas?
They knew it was a false positive before they played yesterday, yet the Niners best players still had to miss the game. They should have forfeited in protest.
Yeah…cause having Kendrick Bourne would have changed the outcome of that blowout LOL. Their best players missed the game for reasons far different than Covid-19
KCJ, i dont think you are aware(didnt read the article or watch the beginning of the game) but because bourne tested positive, anyone in close contact was also forced to sit out the game. So the niners lost their #1 WR in aiyuk. Their #2 WR in Bourne and their starting all pro Left Tackle Trent Williams. They probably still lose the game, but lets not pretend like all 3 of those pieces wasnt a HUGE loss for the ninere. Williams was probably the biggest loss because as you might have noticed, the packers wreaked havoc on his replacement (mullens blind side)
Fortunately, Bourne didn’t have to issue an ultimatum to get the test results reversed.
Not that it matters, but the Saints game is before the 49ers bye week
