On Thursday morning, the Titans received word of yet another positive test, as ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter tweets. Meanwhile, a separate “inconclusive” positive from Wednesday been re-tested and found to be a confirmed positive.

The Titans are currently scheduled to play the Bills on Sunday, but that game is very much in flux. This comes one week after the Titans’ outbreak forced the NFL to postpone their game against the Steelers. Since September 24, the Titans (players and personnel) have received 23 positive test results in total.
In addition to the obvious health concerns, the league is also looking at a logistical quagmire. Some have speculated that the regular season will extend to a newly formed Week 18. Others have wondered if the NFL will put the entire season on pause, though that option is not on the table at this time. And, as of this writing, the league is not considering a “bubble” scenario with players confined to team hotels.
Meanwhile, the Chiefs and Raiders received no positive tests in their latest round, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL.com (on Twitter). There was concern in Kansas City after the Chiefs came in close contact with Stephon Gilmore, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year who was found to have had COVID-19 earlier this week. The Raiders also placed a player on the Reserve/COVID-19 list earlier this week, but, at this time, the virus does not appear to have spread throughout the locker room.
I don’t have a problem with making teams with large numbers of positive cases forfeit, but just giving a free win to the team they were supposed to play doesn’t quite sit right.
Agreed, but hopefully it’s a one time thing and the rest of the keague falls in line afterwards. It would definitely be preferable if the forfeit came against a team that’s not projected to come close to makin the pkayoffs this season
I agree. For instance, why do the Bills deserve a free win when the Steelers are being forced to take their bye week early and play the Titans at a later date? I just feel a forfeit would disrupt the competitive balance of the league. Punishment only impacting Tennessee, such as the loss of draft capital, seems more fair
I think the plan is moving forward it’s an option so the league doesn’t have to rework multiple schedules. That being said, certainly that decision would have been better pre-season.
I know they can’t, but it would be interesting and helpful to find where the players are getting it from. If a player is being irresponsible and going out it’s one thing. If a family member brings it home, that’s another. The titans case is reprehensible but the fact that the chiefs, falcons, raiders and patriots have mitigated any spread leads me to believe there are good practices in place.
That’s one of the tricky things in all of this. There are definitely behaviors that should be discouraged, banned, or punished, but at the same time, we can’t behave like someone who’s infected must have done something wrong. It simply doesn’t work that way, which is part of why we need cautious behavior. It’s also why things like contact tracing are so important.
