The NFL received 84 positive test results between August 1 and October 3, per a Wednesday announcement from the league. That number includes 31 players and draws from a total of 370K+ tests.
The NFL had two confirmed positive tests among players and four new confirmed positives among other personnel between Sept. 20-26. Unfortunately, that number jumped to eleven confirmed positive player tests players and 15 new confirmed personnel positives from Sept. 27-Oct. 3. Among the recent players to test positive: Patriots quarterback Cam Newton, Patriots cornerback and reigning DPOY Stephon Gilmore, and two additional players from the Titans, who previously seemed to have their outbreak under wraps.
“The virus is still very much a threat not only to our season, but to the safety of everyone in our community,” said Dr. Thom Mayer, the NFLPA’s Medical Director. “We encourage everyone to do their part to follow the protocols and keep each other safe.”
Meanwhile, the state of Florida has given the Dolphins permission to operate at 65K capacity. However, citing CDC guidelines, the Dolphins will continue to operate at 13K capacity, CEO Tom Garfinkel says (Twitter link via Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald).

Pretty glad that I moved away from a state so blatantly declaring that money is FAR more important than humans.
Seriously. when a football teams capping themselves at a 1/5 of what the state allows, somethings up.
it’s clear that The Governor doesnt give a flying furdoodle about science, health, or other people.
Science says that 99%+ overall survival rate. Most closer to 99.9% rate. Let’s not ignore the facts fir political reasons.
“Science” says that? Citation needed. And as I said before, death isn’t the only bad outcome and if we’re working in percentages, the goal should be to keep the total number of infections down. Which has been the goal of responsible people.
CDC website has it all
Johns Hopkins has it at under 98%.
Tell that to your grandparents M Dumworth…..
Over 99% of people survive. This isn’t the plague. If you are vulnerable, stay home.
1) “If you are vulnerable, stay home” creates a second class citizenry based on stuff people can’t control. Not everyone even knows if they’re vulnerable and not all vulnerable people have the option to stay home. There are people with underlying conditions who still need to do things out of the house in order to live their lives. Those people shouldn’t be needlessly imperiled by people who can’t resist the siren song of Ryan Fitzpatrick.
2) If we’re dealing in percentages, you still want to keep exposures at a minimum to keep the total number of infections down. 1% of infected people dying is a lot more tragic if the number of infections is many times more than it needs to be.
3) Death isn’t the only bad income. Sickness is bad. Controversial opinion, I know. People have had long lingering health problems, some of which may not go away.
Good points Mr Oooof!
It would be the honorable thing if the gubmint would give us money to stay home and extra money to
the workers allowing us to stay home. Did I just say gubmint and honorable in the same sentence!!??
HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
Blah blah blah. If it was about money, the team would pack the house. It’s about personal choice and the numbers. Cases aren’t the end all, be all. The number of hospitalizations and death are far more important. Looking at the survival rates, they made a determination. Doesn’t mean I’d make the same one, just that it’s their call
It shouldn’t be their call because their behavior doesn’t only affect their own health. You wanna ride a bike without a helmet, be my guest, but taking chances with other people’s wellbeing is another issue.
Actually, while cases in and of themselves aren’t the end all be all, you are forgetting that some of those who have been declared COVID negative are facing: lung issues, memory issues, taste/smell issues, blood clotting issues, heart issues (Eduardo Rodriguez’s myocarditis anyone?). What you are also leaving is out is that, because of the nature of this virus, whatever the number of cases we are seeing per day in the country probably aren’t all of the cases that day considering that in some places you need to have symptoms to get tested, even though we know people can shed the virus and infect others both before they show symptoms or when they are asymptomatic.
So, you can’t just write off all we know about this virus and tag it down to something as easily digestible as “personal choice and numbers.” It really doesn’t work that way.
The world is safe (relatively speaking) provided the state of Florida doesn’t give the Dolphins permission to film another Pet Detective movie.
