Nathan Peterman‘s job appears to be safe. On Friday, the Raiders reworked the quarterback’s contract to go from a non-guaranteed $2.133MM to a guaranteed one-year, $1MM pact (Twitter link via Field Yates of ESPN.com).
Quarterback depth is more important than ever amidst the pandemic and the Raiders see Peterman as a worthwhile QB3 to stash behind Derek Carr and Marcus Mariota. Of course, Peterman’s on-field track record has left much to be desired. The Bills cut him midway through his second pro year, following a historically bad start to his career. Pro Football Reference’s “indexed” statistics, which account and adjust for different eras of the game, rated Peterman dead last among all QBs since 1970 in passer rating, yards per attempt, interception percentage, and numerous other passing statistics.
Peterman looked sharp in the 2019 preseason, but he landed on IR before the start of the Raiders’ season. This year, he’s healthy, and he’ll be on call for Jon Gruden if needed.
The pandemic will be over Nov. 4th
I wish
It’s the reality of it
Oh shut up. It’s not all about Trump
Yep
So it’s bye bye pandemic…hello death asteroid. What a relief!
Rework? Should be Released!
Joke he’s in the nfl. I can also throw interceptions at a high rate can I get paid millions to do it?
Johnny Football, is that you?
I really don’t see why Gruden likes this guy so much. The Raiders would be smart to only carry Carr and Mariota while letting Bowden Jr. fill an emergency back up roll. Let’s face it if Carr and Mariota both go down than the seasons over anyway. I just don’t see the point in keeping this guy around.
Steelers had a guy named duck win 3 straight last year. Nope they didn’t make the playoffs but ya never know. Plus it would just be fun to see how many INT he can throw so chuckie turns as red as can be
Peterman has been awful but as a 5th round pick, I wouldn’t rate him as a bigger bust than Manziel and Hackenberg who were drafted higher.
Yeah, it’s ridiculous how much people berate this kid. The fact of the matter is that Peterman was a late round flier that should be proud of making it to the big stage. Most fifth round quarterbacks don’t even get a single snap of game action.
Sure, Peterman was beyond awful. There’s no denying that, but sometimes the transition to the NFL is difficult. He was thrust into game action in the middle of his rookie campaign against a ferocious Chargers pass-rush. I’m sure Peterman works diligently to maintain his roster spot. Otherwise, he obviously wouldn’t be receiving so many opportunities.
I’d rather someone completely sucked but at least studied the game and have it their best shot, than someone like JaMarcus or Johnny Football that waste their athleticism and talent drinking and partying without putting in the effort required at the professional level. Maybe it’s just the Pitt fan inside of me speaking out, but it’s not like Peterman chose to have his career turn out this way
Success is a hollow feeling if you haven’t had to overcome adversity to achieve it but the privileged athletes can never understand that.
Not a good QB , but certainly no bigger bust than Manziel / Hackenberg or former RAIDER nation legend JaMarcus Russell ….JaMarcus was simply laughable…..and how many milions did he cost the Raiders??? Touch more than Peterman will.
Outrageous!!
People of the USA should be up in arms!
This guy isn’t worth 6 figures, let alone $1,000,000

Or by manipulating facts and circumstances.
THINK ABOUT IT !!
Don’t hold back…tell us what you really think.
Peterman was ranked lower than Gary Marangi (coincidentally also the Bills, go see his 1976 season)? I’m honestly shocked by that.
I can actually understand some team keeping him around as a QB3, especially if the enlarged practice squad allows you to keep a kid QB4 around.
