No team submitted a waiver claim for Leonard Fournette. The former No. 4 overall pick is now a free agent, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com tweets.
While the two-time 1,000-yard rusher profiles as one of the top players available, he has set his sights on the Jaguars for a payment. Fournette has filed a grievance against the Jags for the $4.167MM base salary that would have been due to him this season, Adam Schefter of ESPN.com tweets.
This grievance stems from the one-game suspension Fournette incurred in 2018 for fighting with then-Bills defensive end Shaq Lawson. In December 2018, the Jaguars voided the remaining guarantees in Fournette’s contract. Fournette challenged this, and the void decision is now relevant since money remains on the table from the running back’s previously fully guaranteed rookie deal.
But the team that signs Fournette is no longer bound by the terms of his rookie deal. Fournette will be an interesting addition to a team’s backfield, in what will be an attempt for the formerly coveted prospect to revive his career.
Detroit, Cinny, DC, and Cleveland combined, haven’t PO players like the Jags have done. Bravo Jags. At least you were ahead of the curve on COVID and have plenty of tarps available to cover up the stadium seats.
It’s definitely not a good look when you penalize a player for sticking by his teammates in a brawl. Did Khan expect Fournette to go sit on the bench and be a spectator while this incident went down?
It’s not about what they expected to happen, they would’ve taken ANY possible violation to void guaranteed cash. Lots of teams have history of doing this
And that’s why players hate the Jags. Support your teammates and get fined or voided cash then traded for doing so.
Khan is pinching pennies since The Rona has caused AEW to lose a ton of expected revenue
Wow! It’s definitely a BAD look for a player that is NOT allowed to come off the bench, run all the way over to the fight and start fighting with a player that didn’t even concern him! It wasn’t a “brawl” either. That’s not just the Jags’ rule, that’s a league rule! So the Jags has every right to bench the immature brat a game and fine him money you dope. Cry me a a river you moron!
Easy, fireball.
Bears could use him.
They could but I think it would be a bad fit, Nagy isn’t interested in consistently running the ball enough to keep a guy like Fournette happy even though it would make life easier for whoever the QB is. Plus I think they expect Montgomery to be back even though groin injuries tend to linger.
Dumb not to think to get
A bunch of gold players,
Then be flexible to mold a system around them…but I’m a bears fan, and Nagy can’t do that..yet! He will be a good coach, but he will do it for another team after he realizes his errors from his bears days
Montgomery is hurt. Cohen is a third down back. No.3 has less then 10 career carries. Who cares if he is perfect fit. They need depth.
Now that he’s cleared waivers I expect him to sign very soon
What Brady wants Brady gets …
Any benefit for the Jets to bring in Fournette? Tons of cap scape. Only have two healthy backs right now.
No. They are still the Jets.
I wish, but they have so much money invested at the position already with LeVeon… I would love to see Fournette with the Jets tho
Not to mention it would be going from one of the most poorly run franchises to another. Jersey Jets are a dumpster fire.
Trent Richardson 2.0
That’s hefty praise for Richardson
He’s already been better than Richardson and could easily contribute more over the next few years. Decent comparison, but Fournette is better.
The reality is that new Jags OC Jay Gruden was worried about competition from Leonard Fournette with a receptionist…..
You know a Kapri Bibbs part II?
Tanking for Trevor!
