Shortly after his Washington release, Richard Rodgers will return to Philadelphia. The Eagles re-signed the veteran tight end Tuesday.
Rodgers departs one of the NFL’s thinnest tight end groups and rejoins one of its strongest. Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert were previously the Eagles’ only two active-roster tight ends.
This will mark Rodgers’ seventh NFL season. Rodgers spent the past two with the Eagles, though he only played in eight games. While best known for catching a Hail Mary from Aaron Rodgers in Detroit nearly five years ago, Richard Rodgers caught eight TD passes in that 2015 season. He only has one catch for seven yards since his four-year Green Bay stay concluded.
Rodgers, 28, landed on the Eagles’ IR list with a foot injury last August. The team, however, re-signed him in December. Tuesday’s agreement doubles as Rodgers’ fourth one-year Philly deal.
Why?
I’m not sure. From an outsider’s perspective, I thought Perkins handled himself well in limited snaps as a tertiary option
Yes, Perkins was a good option for sure. However, he did get injured, enough so that he is on the IR and not the active roster. Ofc, idk why we didn’t give Noah Togiai a chance to stick on here… Eh, Rodgers will be good enough for us, until Perkins comes back (whether that’s this year or next year).
They got practically nothing out of him in 2 seasons and couldn’t make a bad team but Philly brings him back. Another year means more prospects out there looking to crack a roster, there has to be a couple developmental-type TEs with some upside they could’ve signed.
He’s a solid veteran blocker. Gets good marks
Ertz trade coming?
They play Washington week 1. They most likely signed him for intel. I’m guessing he will be the first player released, if any changes are made to the roster.
Yes because a guy that hasn’t even dressed for one game, one exhibition game or one live scrimmage will go to that better team an unload tons of secret information about the team he barely knew. Already making excuses for when the Washington Team Formerly Knowns As The Redskins gets whooped on.
He was given a playbook, like all players. Nuff said. No excuse, I expect WFT to lose anyway.
They’re given digital playbooks that get locked down and returned, not like he’s burning copies at the copy machine. Highly doubt he has that much pertinent information to share considering he never participated in any games or live action.
Now, if they can only locate…….

The Eagles will be able to compose a team that will really
Make Music !
Debriefing on Washington’s offense and defense. Common thing.
