Could Josh Rosen be on the move again? For the second time this offseason, a report has surfaced indicating that the Dolphins are receiving calls from clubs with interest in dealing for the 23-year-old signal-caller, with Adam Schefter of ESPN.com noting this morning that Miami has fielded trade inquiries in recent days (Twitter link).
Back in May, Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk published a similar report, but that was before the Dolphins had gotten a chance to see No. 5 overall pick Tua Tagovailoa in action. Tagovailoa looks healthy and appears primed to take over for Ryan Fitzpatrick at some point this season, so Rosen could be on his way out.
Of course, having three QBs that are familiar with their club’s offense could be invaluable in this COVID-impacted season, so the Dolphins will have to weigh that reality against whatever trade offers come their way. Miami gave up a second-rounder to acquire Rosen last offseason, but it’s unlikely the team would be able to recoup that value in another trade. The UCLA product has gone 3-13 as a starter, completing 54.8% of his passes for 2,845 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 19 interceptions.
On the other hand, he has been unfortunate to begin his pro career with the 2018 Cardinals and 2019 Dolphins, outfits that boasted minimal talent on the offensive side of the ball. So there is still hope that Rosen, whom Arizona selected with the No. 10 overall pick of the 2018 draft, could live up to his pedigree.
…
100% agree….one of the worst….if not THEE worst QB in the league….apparently still has value to some teams out there…..
Have you seen Nate Peterman?
Might’ve been destined to be a bust but he got shafted with the two teams he’s been on so far
The 2018 Cardinals weren’t much different than the 2019 Cardinals. Murray was a rookie just like Rosen, and he fared pretty well. Fitzpatrick and Rosen BOTB quarterbacked the same team in 2019. Fitzpatrick faired pretty well both statistically and in the win-loss column. Not sure the team around him had nearly as much to do with it as did Rosen’s talent and field awareness.
They were A LOT different….. see: Mike McCoy
So 2018 Cardinals vs 2019 Cardinals were the same? Kyler Murray isn’t more athletic or just plain better? The coaching staff wasn’t different? Very interesting.
I think he was saying Kyler was better, as well as Fitzpatrick That was the point. Rosen couldn’t lead the same teams to wins.
Right. But I don’t believe they were the same teams is my point. The difference in the 2 teams was more than the quarterback. Now with that said whoever thought that watching UCLA play for the few years he was there and said “That guy right there is a 1st round draft pick and will be great in the NFL or even good” might need to have their heads examined.
Josh Rosen can play in the NFL. At UCLA he had a different OC every year. The same is true in the NFL. It is really hard to judge a QB in a situation like that. I am not saying that Rosen will be an All-Pro but he can be an effective Qb in the right situation.
Maybe but I doubt it.
Yes, my point was Rosen isn’t good. Absolutely the coaching staff had to have made a difference, and that’s a great point. In fact, Kingsbury coming in as a first year head coach and immediately drafting a QB round 1–after already having a round 1 QB from the previous draft—should tell us everything. And, in Miami all things were equal. Same season. Same staff. Same team.
Kingsbury knew that Murray fits his offense better. Same thing almost happen in Washington to Haskins.
New England.
Tampa could actually use a better backup…
Agreed.
The Texans currently only have A.J McCarron as a backup at QB so they will be looking to add another body.
I hate to break it to you, but McCarron is a decent spot starter. Most teams possess complete garbage as their backup signal caller, while AJ at least managed the Bengals to a respectable 4-2 record back in 2015
I actually think the Saints would be a ideal fit
Winston
So like he said…Saints seem like a good fit.
That wouldn’t make any sense whatsoever. Winston is still loaded with potential; he just needs to fine tune his accuracy and grasp the mental aspect of the game. Payton also has a man crush on Taysom Hill and the team just drafted Tommy Stevens in the seventh round as well
My guess would be Jacksonville or Chargers
I would guess Tampa Bay or Pittsburgh
I was hoping Giants took him in the draft looking like a bust now.
Those sound like ideal landing spots. The Bucs and Steelers currently roster aging quarterbacks that could mentor Rosen and help him evaluate his weaknesses. Even if Rosen can’t take over, he’s probably an upgrade over Gabbert and Rudolph as a backup
As a Dolphins fan he played behind a pretty bad offensive line in 2019. I never thought Fitz would make it through the season alive. Someone should give the guy a chance, he has a good arm and would benefit from a team that can protect him.
If Fitz found a situation like Case Keenum had in Minnesota where the whole team is pretty good then he could have a one year run similar to what case did. His problem is he’s just always on garbage teams
Not many QB’s would be good after the amount of moving around he has been put through. He is still 23 that is amazing
He is worth a flyer for Mn Vikings. Our back up sucks and Cousins could be let go or traded 2022 and save 35,000,000
You forget that Cousins just signed a guaranteed extension. So no, we couldn’t just cut him, and what team is going to take that contract?
Personally wouldn’t trade for him. He lacks leadership. I don’t know what it would take to get him inspired to learn leadership and to lead a team.
Steelers?
Jon Gruden
Tennis.
Why is everyone so hard on a 23 year old kid? Not everyone comes into the league playing like a hall of famer. He has been through so many coaching changes in just a small amount of time. Everyone said Alex Smith was a bust as the first overall pick in San Fran, but when he got stability he actually proved to be a solid starter. If Rosen is given a chance to actually learn a playbook and use it for more than a year behind an average O-Line he might actually prove to be a decent QB. Fitz was better last year because of his experience plain and simple. I was one hoping the Phins didn’t draft Tua for two reasons. One give Rosen an actual chance with an average O-Line (may or may not have one this year) and Two I think Lawrence is better than Tua and will be in the league longer. I would have taken Fields or Lawrence in the next draft over Tua in this draft. I’m not saying Tua isn’t a special talent but he just feels like a guy who can’t catch a break physically. Hopefully he is more Drew Brees than Dante Culpepper.
