The Cowboys have added another pass-catcher, as Dallas claimed former Seahawks and Packers receiver Malik Turner off waivers Sunday morning.
A 2018 UDFA from Illinois, Turner spent most of his rookie season on Seattle’s practice squad. He played a decent-sized role on offense for them last year though, appearing in 15 games and making three starts. Overall he played around 22 percent of the offensive snaps while also playing a big role on special teams. He finished the year with 15 receptions for 245 yards and a touchdown, averaging a robust 16.3 yards per catch.
Seattle originally tendered him as an exclusive rights free agent, then pulled that tender. He waited until August to sign with the Packers, then was cut yesterday. The Cowboys have a great receiving trio of Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, and CeeDee Lamb, but they don’t have much after that so it makes sense to pick up someone like Turner and see if he can develop behind them.
I wouldn’t call Cooper, Gallup and an unproven rookie ‘great’. Jmo.
Yeah great might not be the best adjective to describe them; however, they’re certainly an extremely talented trio.
Gallup is just criminally underrated, and he is arguably a more consistent playmaker than Cooper. Lamb is just tantalizing with what all he could bring to the Dallas offense. With his excellent combination of speed, size, and power he could end up being a YAC machine for McCarthy, Moore, and Sir Daxington Scott Prescott the Third..Where does the new name come from, you ask? Because Dax has recently set himself up to be absurdly overpaid and just obnoxiously rich!! lol..
He has 3 reliable and very solid WRs who any one wouldn’t surprise you if they put up a 6 catch 120 yard 2TD performance..
Dax has one of the best OLs in the NFL that will provide him with plenty of time to go through his reads, and that will also allow him to scramble around until one of his guys are able to get open.
Dax will also have a very solid and still rising TE in Blake Jarwin, not to mention an underrated solid backup in the versatile and athletic Blake Bell.
Daximore will also have by his side one of the best RBs in the league in Zeke. Whether he’s helping run the ball to open up the play action passing game, whether he’s serving as a safety valve out of the backfield, or whether he is staying back and helping protect Dax, Zeke is one of the most complete RBs in the NFL. Which, by the way, his backup Tony Pollard is no scrub either. Pollard is capable of helping ease the load for Zeke, and can and will help him stay fresh, while racking up plenty of yards hisself…
Dak will also have the benefit of a rejuvenated Mike McCarthy. He was previously already considered a great football mind, and carried the reputation of being able to develop talented MVP QBs, but now he has had some time off to re-examine his approach, his offensive philosophy, and he’s adapted his style and techniques to better adjust to today’s NFL.
The Cowboys are not winning the SB. They just dont have enough defensively, and Dak is just not that dude, nor that type of leader. He, however, will have an extremely solid season statistically speaking, and they’re talented enough to at least get to the playoffs this season. With that being said, Duke Prescott will force the Cowboys hand, and they’ll be forced to absurdly overpay him to keep him..
At this point, it will be comical, because after that contract they will just continue to be stuck in 8-8 to 9-7 purgatory, yet they won’t have the cap space to strengthen their defense enough to get past the 1st or 2nd rounds..
I’m not reading your essay. 100 words or less please
100
Dallas no longer have one of the best OLs in the NFL. Fredricks retired and Collins starts the year on IR. The LG is a ?. Yeah, they still have Martin and an aging Smith, but that’s 2/5ths of a line. Collins needs to get healthy quickly to solidify the line.
Great from a potential standpoint. Both Gallup and Cooper had 1000 yard seasons last year. I would say they have a top 2-3 WR Corp.
Checking 2019 receiver stats, ONLY top two receivers:
Cooper: 79rec 1189yds 15.1ypr 8td…8th in NFL
Gallup: 66rec 1107yds 16.8ypr 6td…20th
(Gallup did this in 14 games, not 16)
TB, LAC, Cle, and Rams (+KC) top two are comparable. Now add in your third WR.
Consensus top-3 WR CeeDee Lamb who is a notch above “unproven rookie” makes this receiver corps among the best in the league.
(IMO)
That’s the best trio in the league. Not great? Two #1’s and a rookie that will be better than both of them.
