Allen Robinson wants out, according to a league source who spoke with Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune. Meanwhile, the receiver’s agent tells Adam Schefter of ESPN.com (on Twitter) that he has not requested a trade.
Still, Robinson is unhappy with his contract, Schefter hears. Robinson is in the final year of his deal and wants an extension to put him in line with the current market. The $14MM AAV on Robinson’s three-year, $42MM deal currently ties him for 14th with Bills star Stefon Diggs among all WRs.
“We know how important A-Rob is to us not just as a player but as a teammate,” Bears GM Ryan Pace said recently. “But those things are going to remain behind the scene as we work through the process.”
Robinson underscored his importance in the season opener against Detroit, leading the way with five catches for 74 yards. Last year, he was one of the team’s few bright spots as he caught 98 passes for 1,147 yards and seven touchdowns.
Both sides have incentive to get a deal done. An extension would allow the Bears to lock Robinson down while reducing his expected 2021 salary cap hit. Robinson, 27, could be in line for something close to $20MM per year, similar to recent deals for Keenan Allen and Amari Cooper.
Feel like they should have gotten an extension done before Keenan Allen…big jump from $14M to $20M and I think I would rather have Allen Robinson for the long haul
Schefter makes a living stirring s–t up. They will get a deal done.
Bears ownership should nix any deal. Because they’re gonna have a new GM & HC next season.
And QB
Yep!
You’re delusional if you think Pace or Nagy are getting the boot after this year.
There here for a while if we do better than 8-& they will stay playoff will get them a year of no pressure
When you wiff so bad on judging QB’s, you suck. Both should be fired.
Bears should have dumped Nagy and grabbed Rivera when they had the chance. Riverboat Ron is already proving his worth in Washington.
I don’t necessarily disagree about canning Nagy, but I’m not sure Rivera would have helped much outside if nostalgia. Defense is definitely not the problem and that’s Riverboat Ron’s area of expertise. I believe a better hire could be an offensive mastermind like Eric Bienemy
I think it would take a miracle for any team to pry Bienemy away from Andy and the Chiefs.
Bienemy is not going to do much differently than Nagy. Y’all do remember how Nagy got that job to begin with, right? I’m not sure their offenses will be that different. Bear in mind (all the puns intended? No, happy accident) that Bienemy is working with the league’s best receivers, quarterback, and possibly coach in Kansas City. He also does not call plays. His offensive philosophy, like Nagy’s, are based in that Andy Reid style. Chances are he’ll have a lot of similar plays, and like Nagy, will be in charge of installing them in a way that he wasn’t responsible for in KC. That’s not to say that it won’t work, but it very well may be similar.
Bienemy I think will be a good coaching candidate this cycle and would take a job if offered, but I’m not sure that the Bears get so much more out of him than Nagy that it’s worth making that change. Teams get antsy and change coaches, but they need to make sure that what they’re getting is better, or at least significantly different, than what they had.
Hate to break it to rob but he ain’t close to any of the top receivers. Two season with over 1000 yards yikes massively overrated
Trubisky and Bortles are bottom of the league QBs.
Yeah but the year he went off was the year Bortles was awesome in garbage time
Overrated? Look at the QB play he’s had to deal with.
In 1 post you praise the GM & HC (saying they shouldn’t be fired). Now you say their QB sucks. Which is it?
How did I praise them? All I said is that they won’t be fired after this season. My comment stated nothing about praise. And I’m not saying Trubisky sucks. Bortles is involved in that qb play. Dang man get a clue.
Your words: Overrated? Look at the QB play he’s had to deal with.
That’s not saying Mitch sucks?
The GM completely mismanaged his drafts & the roster shows it. As for the HC, he should have this season to see if he’s good or not. Personally, I don’t think the Bears will be .500. Is that because of the roster construction or coaching, probably both.
The division should be wide open. GB mailed in this season. Lions suck & the Vikes are starting like 5 new players on D.
He’s the only active WR to have a 1,400 yard &14 TDS in the same season.
That was 6 years ago…on a different team. the only time he came anywhere close to that since was 1100 and 7TDs and all the other seasons arent anywhere close to that either.
Pretty simple imo, pay the man.
He’s being paid. On a contract he signed.
I understand the reply and know I won’t change you mind in a comment section but here’s a few things to think about.
1) Do you get upset at management when they cut a guy and don’t pay out the full contract? It works both ways.
2) If you are one of the best in your field and would only be able to work for 10 years wouldn’t you try pretty hard to get the best salary possible?
He’s a class act all around and simply does his business. People are upset that the actual athletes are fighting to get paid when they make peanuts compared to the ultra rich owners. Goodell makes almost 40mil a year. I root for the Bears but would rather see the players on the field get theirs.
