Joe Mixon has been out of Bengals practice for the last few days with migraines, as Tom Pelissero of NFL.com tweets. Meanwhile, Mixon is in talks with the Bengals, who are probably hoping that Mixon isn’t looking to cause headaches for the front office.

The Bengals have been adamant about wanting to extend Mixon, but talks have been slow to progress. For now, Mixon is set to play out the final year of his rookie deal with a salary of just $1.2MM. The 24-year-old is clearly in line for a pay bump, however, and Bengals player personnel director Duke Tobin recently pointed out the team’s history of extending players during training camp.
As camp draws to a close, Mixon is said to be seeking Top 8 RB money. That would mean an average annual value of at least $8MM – a substantial, but not unreasonable, raise.
The Bengals currently have upwards of $20MM in available cap room. If they’re not aiming for another major addition, it might behoove them to frontload Mixon’s deal and ease the burden in 2021, when the cap is expected to shrink.
Mixon managed a respectable 4.1 yards per carry average last year, despite the Bengals’ sagging offense. This year, he’ll look to reprise his 2018 performance which included a 4.9 ypc mark.
If Mixon only expects $8 million/season, then Cincinnati should lock him up immediately with a four year extension. Mixon’s still in his prime, averaged over 4 yards/carry behind an atrocious offensive line, and has some of the best hands at his position. Could be a potential steal
Looks like a total no brainer to me as well. Joe hasn’t fumbled in his last 30 games and that is a huge plus in a sport where turnovers have such a major impact.
Good point. Also a valuable pass protector as well
Totally agree. LOCK HIM UP!!! … in a good way.
It’s hilarious to me how they pick and choose who to try and kill careers. This dude decks a girl at a bar on camera, but because it was at college, it’s all good.
It wasn’t all good. The girl punched and slapped him after he called her friend gay then he retaliated with a punch. There’s more to the story but its clear Mixon was in the wrong He went to court and got his sentence. He hasn’t had any issues since other than ripping up a parking citation in 2016 which he served a one game suspension.
Someone lobbed a very specific racial slur his way before he responded with a homosexual slur in response. He spit on him, slapped and punched him. This doesn’t excuse clocking anyone, especially a female, in the face but it does provide context. This wasn’t domestic violence, it was poor unlike control and judgement. He made a bad mistake, case was adjudicated, he upheld his end of the terms. Everyone involved made dumb choices that night
Not even close to all the facts and it def wasn’t just “all good”
Joe paid his debt, knows he’s on thin ice the rest of his career and is grateful his life wasn’t ruined over 1 terrible decision.
And he should pay for that for how long? Smh….
Perhaps a career in MMA if the Bengals thing doesn’t work out? ♂️
First paragraph of story ridiculous. Making light of migraines and causing headaches for front office. Stupid
