The Jaguars are reportedly close to a deal that would send Yannick Ngakoue elsewhere and possibly net the team a second-round pick in return. Apparently, that wouldn’t be quite enough. The Jaguars want “more” than a second-round pick, according to NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero (on Twitter).

A second-rounder “and change,” could be enough to sway Jacksonville, rival teams tell Pelissero, though he hasn’t heard of any imminent deals. The Raiders could be one possible destination for Ngakoue, who would bolster a pass rush currently headlined by Clelin Ferrell and Maxx Crosby. The Jets – who were previously said to be disinterested – are still mulling the possibility, according to Mike Lombardi of The Athletic. The Seahawks may also make some sense for the 25-year-old, and they made a similar late-summer move for Jadeveon Clowney last year.
Ngakoue says he’s through with the Jaguars and he has hired a new agent to help speed up trade talks. On the field, the Jaguars have been happy with the Maryland product – he’s got 37.5 sacks to his credit across four seasons. Off the field, he’s engaged in Twitter spats with team ownership while disparaging the front office publicly. For now, he’s set to play out the 2020 season on his one-year, $17.88MM tender.
Oh come on really
He’s not worth a 2nd round pick with that large salary he wants.
He’s not expecting an extension from his new team. He must play on the franchise tag, so it’s equivalent to taking a flyer on a one-year rental. If you’re contending and need a boost to your edge rush, it might be worth a look
Giving up a 2nd rounder for a rental is pretty step especially for a guy that is more of a pass rush specialist and not really used as a run defender.
It’s not a bad gamble for a contending team. You give up a 2nd and go for it. Then let him sign elsewhere for big money and you could get a 3rd back as a comp pick.
Yeah especially if you’re expecting to draft late in the 2nd. The back end of the 2nd is a lot less than the front half of it, just like the 1st round. You pick up a 3rd comp & you didn’t slide too far.
2nd round is ok, but the salary demands could be crazy. Dallas or Raiders?
Maybe the Raiders, but I doubt Dallas is trying. Demarcus Lawrence already counts for about $22 million against the cap if I remember correctly, and they signed several d-linemen this year. They have several guys who could start at end this year.
They just signed Everson Griffen I doubt they have any interest in yannick.
One year on the tag is worth a 2nd.
It would have to be a team that is pretty close for it to truly be worth it, I feel..
If they had the cap, Seahawks would be the perfect fit…Although, as a 49ers fan, here is to hoping he is a Raider..lol
Hawks could make room with some cap manipulation
i wouldnt be suprised if he’s like Adams and simply wants to leave OR be paid more. both would obviously be icing on the cake, but im sure he’d be more angry with neither then just one.
He’s not worth it at all. He’s a good player but not a great player.
If he thinks he’s worth top 5 DE money then by all means he should be worth “at least” a 2nd rounder.
It doesn’t matter what he thinks he’s worth, nor does that have any effect whatsoever on his trade value.
You can trade a disgruntled player promptly like the Jets did with Adams and get good value or you can get into a pzzing contest like Washington did with Trent Williams and get a fraction of what you originally demanded. Looks like the Jags are taking the Washington approach.
Which happens first? Ngakoue gets traded or Clowney signs for close to what he wants?
