The 49ers have agreed to sign safety Johnathan Cyprien, agent Drew Rosenhaus tells Adam Schefter of ESPN.com (on Twitter). Terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but it’s likely a one-year pact for the veteran’s minimum.

Cyprien originally entered the league as a second-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2013. After four years as a full-time starter in Jacksonville, he signed with the Titans in 2017. He missed six games with a hamstring injury that year, but started the other ten. In 2018, a torn ACL cost him the entire season.
Last August, the veteran hooked on with the Eagles. But, before the end of September, he was shipped to the Falcons for linebacker Duke Riley. One week later, he was placed on IR after just five total games played.
Injuries have derailed Cyprien repeatedly over the last three years, but he’s still only 30. With experience and the ability to deliver crushing hits, he could carve out a role as a reserve in SF. He’ll make his case for a spot behind Jaquiski Tartt and Jimmie Ward over the next few weeks.
The picture confuses me. That isn’t Cyprien. Is the player in the background Cyprien?
Um, that is Johnathan Cyprien. He played on the Eagles and wore #37. The guy in the background is Nathan Gerry.
He’s talking about this picture with Delanie walker getting tackled by Cyprien when he played with the jags.
Ohhh, on the website. I had forgotten about that. Makes a lot more sense.
Seriously, you can tell that the player in the background is Johnathan? I guess my point is, of all the pictures available of a guy who has been in the league since 2013 and that is the best picture you can come up with, then he barely deserves mentioning. However, in this case, the guy has been a pretty solid player, you have to be able to come up with a better picture than that.
That’s probably Jalen mills
Cyprien might be a physical tackler, but he’s a complete butcher in coverage. Not sure he cracks San Francisco’s roster. Maybe as a special teamer?
Back-up box safety, it makes sense…Especially considering their lack of depth at the position overall
They would be better off signing a wet paper bag.
Cyprien is alright. Not really a cover safety, but then again, most SS aren’t. He does have experience though and by all accounts is a good guy, and as far as backups go, is certainly a high end option compared to most street free agents.
