On Friday, NFL owners met to discuss the best path forward as they look ahead to the 2020 season. Afterwards, the NFLPA issued a statement indicating that little has been resolved between the league office and its players:
“Our union commissioned the best people to come up with the most comprehensive set of recommendations for return-to-work protocols. The health and safety checklist was put together according to an agreement we signed in March with the NFL. That agreement, along with our CBA, is in place to hold the NFL accountable to keeping players as safe as possible and reduce risk.
Our job is to stand firm and push management to agree to these expert recommendations and hold them accountable to implementing the full health and safety checklist.
We know that players are taking all of the risk by returning to work. We also know there will be a shortfall in revenues next year, but players cannot be asked to bear the full brunt of both the health and safety risk and the financial one. We are bargaining for fair and reasonable ways to soften the short-term economic losses in our business.”
In a conference call with reporters, NFLPA president J.C. Tretter said the union has gotten little in the way of answers after consulting with team doctors in hotspot areas. Meanwhile, Smith said that he is not aware of any players who have opted out for the upcoming season, but that could change as Week 1 draws closer.
This is going to be a mess.
Man I love billionaires and millionaires fighting over money!
It’s a rematch after the MLB dispute ended in a draw! Just what we were hoping for!
Should they just all donate it?
Play 8-10 games.
3 rounds of playoffs. Divisional, Championship, Superbowl.
You play 8 games you can have AFC go one week and NFC go another week and keep a 16 week schedule to allow for testing in between and replacement players. NFC vs NFC. AFC vs. AFC..
8 games is not enough to determine who qualifies for the postseason. The last wildcard would likely be a four way tiebreaker between an assortment of 4-4 teams. I believe you’d need at least a dozen matchups to make an accurate assessment of the most deserving clubs for the playoffs
I’d take the odds on the Bengals winning the SB over the NFL playing 8-10 games. It’s probably about 50/50 as to whether training camps can avoid being a clustermuck.
Cancel the season and pay the players zero. In a month they will be begging to play again.
Can’t legally do that.
“Guaranteed” money they get paid regardless.
They wouldn’t make as much, but they’ll get some.
NFL structures their contracts differently than MLB. Be a legal nightmare to try and without paying players guaranteed money, roster bonuses, etc.
Any player who does not want to risk there health by playing is allowed to opt out. What’s the problem here? They have the choice. They can play and collect a pay check or not play and not get paid. They can make that choice just like any other American today
it’s funny how they r saying players r taking all the risk . last time I looked coaching staff is older and on the sidelines and in practices so how r the players taking all the risks ? they aren’t and I think the coaching staff is as if u look the coaching staff is normally older then the players so they incur more risk . I mean anyone that has a preexisting condition is at risk and older people
I think a ” Go fund me” page will help these valiant risk takers.
