The Titans have inked seventh-round quarterback Cole McDonald, according to Jim Wyatt of the team website (Twitter link). Per the terms of his slot, the University of Hawaii product will receive a four-year, $3.4MM deal with a ~$101K signing bonus.
Last year, McDonald finished third in the nation in passing yards. Hawaii’s aggressive offensive scheme had a lot to do with that, but the Titans also saw some pro potential in the youngster. Now, he’ll try to make the cut behind Ryan Tannehill and try to push Logan Woodside for the QB2 role.
With McDonald in the fold, it’s three down and three to go for the Titans. Here’s the full rundown of their draft class, via PFR’s 2020 NFL Draft Tracker:
Tennessee Titans
1-29: Isaiah Wilson, T (Georgia)
2-61: Kristian Fulton, CB (LSU)
3-93: Darrynton Evans, RB (Appalachian State)
5-174: Larrell Murchison, DT (N.C. State): Signed
7-224: Cole McDonald, QB (Hawaii): Signed
7-243: Chris Jackson, S (Marshall): Signed
He can’t possibly be a bigger disappointment than Zach Mettenberger was.
I mean how many 6th and 7th round QBs have you seen have success besides Tom Brady……. I’ll wait
Ps not a Brady fan but I respect the goat
After Brady, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Marc Bulger, Matt Cassel, Derek Anderson and Tyrod Taylor have the next most starts and starting seasons of the 6th and 7th round QB’s drafted since 2000.
Matt Hasselbeck, Jeff Blake (Go Pirates!) and Gus Frerotte were the best of them drafted in the 90’s.
Mark Rypien, Stan Humphries and Rodney Peete were the the best of the 80’s.
And Pat Haden is the only 1970’s 6th or 7th round QB who’s even worth mentioning, IMHO. Bet a bunch of teams wish that had drafted Warren Moon in 1978.
Since 2000 I counted 64 QBs who really amounted to nothing taken between rounds 6 and 7. You can look for yourselves.

Every couple years you get a Gardner Minshew, Trevor Siemian, Joe Webb, Tyler Thigpen who’ve had some success in the league…..but majority don’t make it.
That was a joke. But there were some Titans fans who thought that Mettenberger was going to have success there after what he did with LSU, instead of going 0-10 as a starter during his brief NFL career.
And cOLe McDonald was his name oh.
The Titans should totally sign Newton or Kaep. They have nearly $20 million in cap room and their backup situation is awful. Furthermore, if Tannehill regresses, they’ll have security at the position
I agree. Newton would be my first pick.
If Newton was healthy enough to play, he’d be signed by now.
I think it has more to do with the fact that teams haven’t been able to evaluate him. We don’t know his actual status
Lol @ Kaep. Get over it. He’s not playing.
I could care less if he plays. It was just a suggestion. Stop getting triggered at the mention of his name
They’ll go back to pursuing Cutler before they chase Kaep.
I skimmed past this too fast and thought he was holding a beer bong
