Japanese kicker Toshiki Sato says he’s garnered some interest from the Cowboys and Raiders (via Kyodo News). Their level of interest is not clear and Sato recognizes that the Cowboys aren’t exactly in need of his services.
“The Cowboys and Raiders are interested. I’m waiting for an offer,” Sato said. “The Cowboys might be difficult since they have three kickers and one has a big contract, but the Raiders only have two. I think there’s a chance I could get an invite if those two don’t do well at the upcoming camp.”
One of those three Cowboys kickers is Greg Zuerlein, who inked a three-year, $7.5MM deal with Dallas in March. Greg The Leg is also a longtime pupil of Cowboys special teams coach John Fassel, so it’s unlikely that Sato would have much of a chance there. The Raiders might be more realistic – Daniel Carlson struggled a bit last year and he’s set for a kicking battle with UDFA Dominik Eberle.
Sato spent last year with Japanese X-League team IBM Big Blue. In November, he nailed a 58-yard field goal, the longest in that league’s history.
Wrong sport clown
Why do the Cowboys need 3 kickers?
Especially when one of them is Zuerlein. I know he’s coming off a down year, but he’s still one of the best in the business
because they’re job creators. how many kickers have you employed?
Camp legs & to kick the tires on kickers if Z is injured.
The Cowboys interest is just crazy. Jerry Jones loves to have his team involved with any news. If it’s not any news about Dak contract or Adams trade he makes sure they are involved in everything and anything.
A team should sign him just for the jersey sales in Japan.
IBM Big Blue is a darn cool team name
The Raiders desperately need improvement from their kicking game. Do this. Please!
Anything to try to fill that ugly, blackhead looking stadium on I-15. I have lived in Las Vegas for over 24 years and if this stadium had been put up to a vote of the people of Las Vegas it would have never been built. They stopped the MLS stadium here and after the NBA all-star game fiasco there is no demand for an NBA franchise much less a stadium. The Raider’s Blackhead Pimple Stadium is supposed to be paid for by a room tax but since there are few people coming here and the hotels have been closed down for about 90 days there is little to no monies to pay the mortgage without cleaning out all the other accounts like education.
There is little support to be seen here except an occasional license plate frame or 2 to show support for the worthless raiders.
No
If the Cowboys are looking to do anything with their special teams group it should be for a punter. Chris Jones has been terrible. They should look into Drew Kaser or Marquette King (although he was dropped from the Raiders for “personality issues”, and Dallas doesn’t need any more guys like that).
They’re not job creators. Any business hires to help them make money. That’s why the term hired help is used. They help them make money. They wouldn’t hire them if they didn’t need help. Businesses want to keep costs down and profits high.
