Despite all of the kind words from GM Joe Douglas, all is not well between the Jets and star safety Jamal Adams. As the Browns discuss a new deal with Myles Garrett, Adams finds himself frustrated with the lack of momentum in his own contract talks.

“Well deserved [Myles Garrett],” Adams wrote on Instagram (h/t Rich Cimini of ESPN.com, via Twitter). “I can’t even get my first proposal that they said they would send over in January. I was called ‘selfish’…A lot of talk, no action.”
Adams, 25 in November, has been pushing for a deal that would top Eddie Jackson‘s recent deal with the Bears – a four-year, $58.4MM contract that leads NFL safeties in average yearly salary. If he can’t get that, Adams is reportedly open to a trade. The Jets have dangled Adams in the past, but their asking price warded off everyone. Effectively, Douglas has maintained that old business adage – “Don’t tell them no, tell them how much it will cost.” At this point, the Jets have publicly and privately indicated that they will not deal their best defensive player.
“[Adams] was a big reason I was excited about coming here,” Douglas said earlier this year. “I feel this guy is a core player. The main goal that I’m trying to do right now is to surround him with like-minded players, because we know Jamal is a dog.”
For now, Adams is slated earn $7.1MM in 2020 and $9.86MM in 2021, via the fifth-year option. After that, the Jets could theoretically keep him with the franchise tag, but it’s clear that Adams wouldn’t cooperate in that scenario.
You might as well lock him up. He’s still young but also proven. If you can extend him and keep him happy, you’ll have a cornerstone to build the defense around. It’s not as though the Jets lack cap space either. Darnold is still on a rookie deal and they can cut ties with Bell after this season
Same deal as the Jags w/ Yannick. Great player that hates their team. For reasons I understand (from the players view), why drag out & publicly lie about negations? Terrible front offices. And more losing seasons will continue for both franchises.
The Jets were 1 win away from not having a losing season last year when they had a mountain of injuries and started 1-7. Sorry to break it to you, but they are a team on the rise and won’t be a doormat anymore. Espically if they get rid of Gase.
In other words, a losing season.
Hilarious. Im sure you envisioned them winning 7 games when they started 1-7. Progress matters and the Jets have been making it. They will be a playoff team by 2021. I love how there are narratives of a “terrible front office” when the Jets GM has been in office for barley 1 year and we have not even seen his own free agents or draft picks play yet.
God love jets fans
What in recent history tells you that the Jets are capable or competent enough to get into the playoffs? I get that you are optimistic based on some “what if’s” from last year but let’s be honest, they are a horribly run organization with an awful coach.
Adams frustrated with the Jets, Dak frustrated with the Cowboys, Yannick frustrated with the Jags and so on…. Star players are so spoiled. The more they complain the more they force there team to meet there demands or trade them.
Poor guy can’t live on $8 million a year. I feel sorry for him and the terrible terrible treatment he is getting.
Its called oppression i believe.
Cowboys will be really interested in Adams.
How about Ezekiel Elliot, Xavier Woods and a second round pick for Jamal Adams and LaVeon Bell
New general manager same old jets. This team is a joke which is why they have not won a Super Bowl in 50 years. The best thing for Adams is to get traded to a team that will be more than happy to pay him what he is worth because obviously it is not going to happen with the Jets. Going to put a lot of this on the head coach being he is extremely offense of minded he could be telling the general manager to pay other guys before him and this could upset the player because he is thinking they don’t value him at what he is worth.
That head coach was mad the most at paying a RB big money so the narratives ESPN and the NFL meme community fed to you are wrong. You haven’t seen any draft pick or free agent the Jets brought in under the new GM play yet. But go off because they are one of the usual meme teams. Any team would be hesitant to break the bank for a saftey. They are not hard to find.
Your team literally broke the bank for a Middle linebacker and a running back. Great strategy if
this was 1993. They hired some scrub o-line man, don’t have any serious cover corners and drafted an overweight tackle. Who is rushing the passer again? Lol. Trying to pretend the jets aren’t a terrible organization is an exercise in mental gymnastics. The Jets will waste Darnold’s rookie contract. Same old Jets. Good job winning enough games to cement Gases job security.
1 more year left on his deal,a option, and then 2 franchise tags.4 years of control,at a cost less than what Chicago paid Jackson.Chicago had 3 years of control,so they basically paid to add 2 more, plus Jackson had a 4th Rd salary, and Adams is making top of the draft money.Jets are also further away from truly contending.I wouldn’t blame Douglas if he waits it out a bit,to see how the team plays to start the season 1st.Extend him now and the option to trade him comes off the table, and he’s pretty much their best trade chip.
People look at the Leveon Bell situation and think the franchise tag has lost its edge. But realistically, the Steelers could’ve played that differently, and kept Bell from hitting the market.Luckily for Bell, the Steelers felt good enough about Connor,to feel like they adequately replaced him.
Raiders should trade for him
