Even while offering his support to Gardner Minshew, Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone admitted that he’s still keeping an eye out for experienced quarterbacks.

“He’s our QB there’s no doubt about it..but one of the things we’re doing, we’re still looking to make sure we’re upgraded at each position,” Marrone told Peter Schrager of NFL Network (Twitter link). “There are some vets out there we might look at to bring in.”
One of those vets could be Andy Dalton, the longtime Bengals starter who was released by the club on Thursday. Jaguars offensive coordinator Jay Gruden got the best out of Dalton when he was Cincinnati’s head coach and he’d be a logical fit as Minshew’s safety net.
Of course, given Minshew’s up-and-down track record, a new veteran in Jacksonville could potentially take the reins. Dalton, for his part, is looking for an opportunity to start. Already, the Jaguars – and Patriots – have reportedly discussed Dalton. At the same time, the Bengals didn’t get a whole lot of interest from the Jags when they discussed Dalton in the past.
Minshew was thrust into the starting job when Nick Foles suffered a broken collarbone. Then, when Foles couldn’t get the job done in back-to-back blowout losses, Minshew was restored as the QB1 in December.
My goodness there is no point. Just roll with Minshew until you get Lawrence next year!
I think Detroit or Washington have the inside track on Lawrence, unless Jacksonville flat out tanks. The real question is who’s going to be the best at tanking?
Jacksonville did lose a lot of talent this offseason though, so they may slip very far down the rankings. I think the Lions will be average and won’t be terrible like last year. I think the Redskins are the only competion but who knows? Haskins could break out next year and take them out of the QB market. It really depends on Haskins and how he does next season.
Also, word is the redskins will have a top defense next year if Young is what we think he is. So I think Jacksonville has the inside track for the number one pick. But we never know. Who would have thought the chargers would have went from a top team to a bottom team in one year, so we might have a surprise team at the bottom again.. maybe the patriots??
Haskins wasn’t drafted by the current staff and will be willing to cut the tie at 1st sign that Haskins doesn’t fit their scheme. Without a good left tackle now that they traded Trent Williams theywill have trouble protecting any QB this year.
I would agree that they have no commitment to him. I just think they will win 5 games with their defense and not be in a great position to get Lawrence
Detroit has no reason to tank. If they do, HC and GM will be fired. What’s their incentive to tank? They were given a ultimatum basically win or you’re out.
No guarantee they’ll get him. There are worse off teams than the Jaguars.
Is Bortles available?
Yes
Oh
Gruden was OC of the Bengals, not the HC, right?
I believe you are correct since Marvin Lewis was the Cincinnati head coach for about a decade I believe
MISSOURI IS THE SHOW ME STATE
FLORIDA IS THE SHOW ME HOW TO F* IT UP STATE
Even Rob Johnson and Scott Mitchell know you don’t make some random scrub your starter based on a few games.
It isn’t like the Jaguars did that multiple times during the 2000’s; remember David Garrard?
It would have been nice to see the team support Minshew by using their 1st round picks on the O side of the ball.
The only support Minshew will get from Khan will come in the form of pall bearers…probably from the practice squad.
Next year, Jacksonville will have the number one pick to go with a new General Manager and new Head Coach.
Can they trade that pick for a new owner?
