The Redskins are talking with multiple teams about a potential Trent Williams trade, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (on Twitter) hears. If a deal is going to happen, they’d like to get it done ASAP in order to recoup draft picks for this weekend. Of course, any Williams deal would require a thorough physical, and that’s trickier than usual.
[RELATED: Browns Interested In Trent Williams]
The Browns have been keeping a watchful eye on the situation and they’re not the only team that would be interested in picking up the multiple time Pro Bowler. The Jets, in theory, would love to add the veteran left tackle, though they’ve been unwilling to cough up a second-round pick thus far. Even if they changed their minds, a second-round pick might not be enough.
As it stands, Williams is set to earn $12.5MM in base salary under his current contract, which expires after the 2020 season. Any team that acquires him will have to negotiate a new long-term pact with the standout offensive lineman and that deal would probably be a market shifter. In addition to his medical history, there’s also his age to consider. Williams will turn 32 in July.
The Vikings have also been connected to Williams as they look to better protect Kirk Cousins. It’d be a logical fit, especially given their history together. For now, the Vikes have Riley Reiff penciled in at left tackle, though they’re still exploring their options.
I’d say Bucs but they have no cap space at the moment. Browns, Jaguars, Dolphins, Seahawks, Vikings, Chargers?
Vikings and Seahawks have just over $12 mil in cap space. Maybe if they restructure and lessen Williams 2020 cap hit, that’d be a good fit.
As much as I’d love the Hawks to create space in order to go after TW imo they’re going to sign an elite DE before an OL. It will (hopefully) be Clowney, Ngakoue or someone similar. Our pass rush was beyond poor last season and at the minute it doesn’t look like it’s going to be that much better
It is Wednesday my dudes.
come on Chelsea or come on browns hopefully if they get him they might be a little bit more willing to trade down with the Eagles or the Eagles can get up and get my two big three receivers
Keep drafting by need dummy
I know Seattle is anti OL for Russell, but he’d help that line a ton and have an extra 2nd.
It’s quite amazing how well that team does with that O-line. Who was the last top tier tackle they had? Walter Jones?
Okung
If the Browns put out a message that they were going to draft one of the top receivers. Those teams wanting one of those like the a Raiders might want to swap 1st rd picks along with a 2 to get it. Take that 2 and a 3 and trade for Williams.
I like this idea. Makes a lot of sense.
How about.. Browns trade njoku and a fourth for trent Williams, who says no?
Me
Everyone?
Probably the Redskins
How about.. bucs trade oj Howard for Trent Williams and skins send a fifth back to the bucs, who says no?
Trent & a 5th for a bust at TE?
JJB: That dude is crazy smh
Tampa bays cap guy. Although upgrading at OL and going all in to protect Brady is a must now.
Hell no…you’re insane..we can draft a young TE or go w what we have …we not bringing in some low character FA and giving up Trent & and a draft pick for him ..you thinking like Bruce and Vinny
You’ve got it backwards. It would likely be Trent to TB for OJ and a pick. Or maybe the Skins and back a late round pick while TB gives up a third. But either way, Williams is the more valuable asset between he and OJ.
Redskins aren’t going to get what they hope they’re going to get.
Titans traded Jurell Casey who’s 30, under contract for 3 more years, and ranked in the top 10 for dline….only netted the titans a 7th.
Williams is going to be 32. If you can get a 4th and a conditional pick based on games played, snaps played, and/or playoff success you take it,
The 4th will be useful in an especially deep oline draft and the conditional pick can start as a 5th and max out at a 2nd
5th
4th if he plays all 16 games
3rd if the team makes the playoffs
2nd if the team makes the superbowl
