It didn’t take long for D.J. Fluker to find a new home. NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reports (via Twitter) that the veteran offensive lineman has signed with the Ravens. The deal is pending a physical.
Fluker was released by the Seahawks on Sunday after spending two seasons with the organization. Last offseason, the lineman signed a two-year, $9MM extension with Seattle, and he proceeded to start 14 games during the 2019 campaign (his highest total since 2016).
The 2013 first-round pick out of Alabama spent the first four seasons of his career with the Chargers before spending the 2017 campaign with the Giants. In total, the 29-year-old has appeared in 92 career games, including 88 starts.
The Ravens are naturally putting an emphasis on protecting Lamar Jackson, with the organization selecting a pair of rookies in the 2020 Draft (third-round lineman Tyre Phillips and fourth-round guard Ben Bredeson). The team is eyeing several holes on their offensive line, as Marshal Yanda retired and Matt Skura continues to recover from a knee injury.
You can string together a pretty decent football career even if you are the classic “journeyman” that Fluker clearly is. He can help a team until that better player comes along to provide depth.
Was not worth a first round pick but he could stay around the league for a while just being a solid player like you said.
As a Rams fan, I’d take him in a heart beat.
Considering how dire the supply side is for OLs, there are a lot of GMs that would be attracted to someone like Fluker. I think he will expand his jersey collection for a while yet.
Ravens are odds-on, no doubt Superb Owl champs this year. I hate to say that as a fan of a team in their division.
I never knew a Raven was a type of owl. But not just an ordinary owl, a Superb Owl.
The Super Bowl goes thru KC.
No actually whoever gets the number 1 seed. KC is not that scary of a team bud.
They literally just proved they are the best team in the league.
I have no doubt many experts will jump on the Ravens bandwagon. The Titans exposed some weaknesses in the playoffs, they lost to the Browns in the regular season and they have the lowest offensive payroll in the league right now. I’m not convinced they should be the SB favorites.
Of course the Bengals who Require more OL help are happy with the Billy Price and Bobby Hart types to protect their rookie QB.
Called that move yesterday when I found out he was released. Perfect Ravens move. With their run focused attack they now have another road grader to plug in for the departed Yanda. Bozeman was solid at LG last season and now Center seems to be between Mekari and Skura if he’s healthy. The two rookies can be depth and take some time to learn before being thrust into a starting role on a playoff hopeful team with big aspirations to win it all.
