The Patriots found a new kicker in the fifth round, selecting Marshall’s Justin Rohrwasser with the No. 159 overall pick. Rohrwasser is the first kicker to be selected in the 2020 draft. Meanwhile, they’ve yet to draft a new quarterback.
No one’s exactly sure what the Patriots are going to do under center as they get set for life without Tom Brady. Even though it would have been a very un-Bill Belichick move, some speculated that the Patriots could consider a bold trade up the board for the likes of Tua Tagovailoa or, more realistically, tapped a mid-round QB like Washington’s Jacob Eason. Instead, they’re holding off.
Even if the Patriots select a QB in the late stages of the draft, they’ll finish the weekend with Brian Hoyer penciled in as their QB1. That doesn’t mean their out of other options, of course. Former MVP Cam Newton and former No. 1 overall pick Jameis Winston are still available. There are also some notable arms available via trade, including longtime Bengals starter Andy Dalton.
Typical Zach Links. Stidham is a thing, and he’s better than anybody the Pats could’ve reasonably gotten.
What? Lmao.
Jordan Love or Jalen Hurts would have been better than Stidham.
They were sitting there at 23 and passed on him. Sat at 37 passed on Hurts.
NE would be smart to try and get Brissett back from Indy.
Both Love and Hurts are going to be bad pros.
I don’t get what people are seeing.
Bill doesn’t like Brissett that’s why he traded him after 1 season
I trust your judgement. You know way more about talent than Bill Belichick. Bill has not proven a thing.
Badda Bing!
Patriots are obviously tanking, while sheep in New England still pretend Bill is making smart moves.
Hoyer will start once Stidham fails in preseason
I bet Colts send Brissett back
Not one mention of Stidham above? Interesting. However what’s likely to happen is Hoyer will start week 1-4 and then Stidham will take over. He is the QB of the future now
I’ll bet the Dave Dameshek scenario has Eli Manning coming out of retirement and leading the Patriots to a SB over the Giants. That would be priceless.
They aren’t drafting one. Get it through your thick skull, Jason Stidham is their QB!
Ya because they’re tanking for Trevor.
Patriots are garbage and made zero good picks
Is this a joke Links?
Links is a joke.
I never understood the obsessive belief of everyone that the Patriots would draft a quarterback. I really liked Fromm for them, but other than that I didn’t see anyone that made sense.
Belichick is never one to panic or overreact. I think he’s just fine with Stidham.
Fromm is not an NFL QB. He has the right mind to be one but not the physical skills. He has a very weak arm and very small hands. The NFL ball is 1.5” bigger (in circumference) than the college ball and it won’t be able to hold onto it in bad weather games. Could also be why he struggled throwing at the combine so much as well. It’s too bad because he has the smarts for sure.
They will end up tanking and take their QB at the top of the next draft class. Suck for Lawrence!
Tanking isn’t in Belichick’s DNA
Charney is bang on. their guy was Fromm from a value standpoint. the fact they passed on him in the 5yh for a kicker told you they aren’t goi g to draft one. Bill and the coaching staff believe in Stidham. Yes he wasn’t a 1st or 2nd rounder but neither was the GOAT who just left the building.
By game #5, they’ll be looking for Babe Parilli.
Can’t believe they picked a kicker over Jake Fromm. Amazing.
Classic rebuild. Defense & special teams. Young TE for his young QB. Breaking in a new line coach as well. No reason to get a high pick killed behind a bad line.
And no, BB isn’t tanking. It’s not in his DNA.
He might not be tanking but they will not be good. He will have the draft capital to trade up next year to get one of the two QBs or maybe another like Burrow who broke out this season. I hope they don’t get Lawrence the Pats fans will be unbearable. Even more so than now.
Jax will take care of that
Theyll get Winston
Them they really will be tanking. Lol If they want to be a little more competitive they would get Newton. I can’t see those two getting along. Imagine Bill’s face when Fig walks in with a scarf on. In his low mumbley voice he says “who the hell talked me into signing this guy fire him.”
Winston to NO.
Pats will win the East and Miami and Buffalo will go psychotic meltdown.
